Film hero in the making! September 20, 2006 Reader (Asia) 30 out of 30 found this review helpful
This is one of Hugh Jackman's first movies ( the other one is the highly dramatic ERSKINEVILLE KINGS) and it already shows the promise of one who will eventually capture worldwide movie audiences' imagination in a variety of roles. This is a romantic comedy and proves to be a charming and highly entertaining piece. There is excellent chemistry between Hugh and Claudia Karvan in a story which happens in the Australian outback and partly in modern Sydney. I have watched it a number of times and I find myself chuckling and enjoying it everytime.

Paperback Hero February 1, 2009 Ms. R. Ramos (Middx, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Great romantic story of a very macho guy (Hugh Jackman) who writes a romantic novel. When it's chosen to be published, he doesn't want his identity to be revealed and asks his female best friend to pretend to be the writer. Great story telling and some funny moments. Too bad the film seems too short because you can so easily loose yourself in this.
The Outback is so real you can almost taste it. April 10, 2009 Wendy E. Whitbread (England) A tale of the Outback AND Hugh Jackman - I couldn't resist. First watched it late one night on TV and liked it so much I had to buy the DVD. The pace and humour are laconic, like the life out back. I really enjoy Australian films that depict the true character of its people and land. Add to this the core story of a rugged truckie who writes a romantic novel but uses a female friend's name as 'real men don't write romance'. When a publisher turns up to discuss publication, he persuades his friend to pretend to be the author. She concedes after much protest and they are soon in the big city promoting the book. The twist is that he has been in love with her for ages, she's regarded him as a friend and is herself engaged to a mate of his.
Good movie and good service from Amazon! April 23, 2009 PatEterna (Spain) This romantic comedy, one of the first movies with Hugh Jackman starring, is simple but effective. I've read another reviews and decided to buy it because it seemed to be the kind of refreshing movie you can enjoy to forget your problems for a while. And that's what you get: an unpretentious and entertaining film.
