Best film ever July 17, 2008 sufferkate (Liverpool UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I dont understand how people wouldnt like this movie.I do agree on the length which can be a drawback but you need this time to really get involved in the film and start feeling what the hero feels.
br /The last 15 minutes are by far the most disturbing I have ever seen(im not talking about the sex scene). You can properly feel what goes through his mind and his denial concerning the whole situation.
br /Chloe Sevigny is amazing in it.
br /I do highly recommend it,at least give it a try you wont regret it.
Divisive Genius July 28, 2009 Agent Cooper (Scotland) br /I can undestand why a lot of people will dislike this film immensely. Little or no action and little or no dialogue either.....well until the end. If nothing else it is a great Americana, gritty real life road movie with beautiful scenery and music.
br /I will not try to describe the films' plot, some of the other reviewers have done that more eloquently than I could. I will just say this is one of the most beautiful and powerful movies I have seen in my life, my jaw on was on the floor after the final scene.
br /A near genius work of art !

A surprising masterpiece January 15, 2006 Rob Perry (London United Kingdom) 24 out of 33 found this review helpful
I came across this film by chance and saw it without realising the controversy that surrounded it. I was rewarded with a classic tale of lost love, loneliness and heartbreak set in a journey across America. As Bud Clay takes to the road, so we begin to share glimpses of his loss. The sound composition, photography, and soundtrack combine beautifully to represent the awkward story that unfolds, and the time that it exists in.
Raw January 28, 2008 blackbour 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This film really touches a raw nerve. It's about pain. people mostly don't seem to like it and it often puts people to sleep. Of the people I know who watched it the women found it meaningless, most guys found it dull but some found it profoundly touching and upsetting. I liked the film but I think Vincent lost his way here - why o why didn' he use all those genius tracks that Frusciante did for him for this film. They're sitting there on the soundtrack and Gallo used them as inspiration. A friend and I put the film on and played some of the Frusciante tracks in the background - especially for the opening motorcycle race and it was great. I think a quick director's cut with all the music would make quite a difference.
Beautiful nothingness! ***SPOILER ALERT*** March 26, 2009 Mr. T. Ford 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
First off, I'm biase. I think Vincent Gallo is a genius so I was never going to think this film was as bad as people made out. Second, I actually rather like films where nothing much seems to happen. So I looked forward in anticipation to The Brown Bunny.

br /For me the whole film is validated by the very end of the film. I wasn't expecting it either so I was really pleased when it happened. Without the ending the film would indeed have basically been Gallo driving along, meeting the odd woman along the way before stopping off at the end, seeing his ex girlfriend, getting the famous you know what and thats it. There would have been no plot, much like most critics would have you believe anyway. BUT. When we find out that Daisy is actually dead it validates EVERYTHING! It means this character driving along without much purpose suddenly becomes this haunted character fighting his demons and regrets whilst lonely driving across country, before it all comes to a head (excuse the pun) at the end. That sealed it for me. The film went from an ok, beautifully shot movie to a very poignant movie. Well played Gallo, it is a genius touch. And the movie just has a sort of magnetism and hypnotism to it that draws you in. The endless shots of the landscape are beautiful and could feasibly come from some travel documentary or something.

br /All in all, mainly due to the ending this film, like most of Gallo's films(apart from the dreadful Moscow Zero, sorry Vincent but it is bad)has more than exceeded my expectations.
