Amazon.co.uk Review IFantastic Four/I is a light-hearted and funny take on Marvel Comics' first family of superherodom. It begins when down-on-his-luck genius Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) has to enlist the financial and intellectual help of former schoolmate and rival Victor Von Doom (Julian McMahon) in order to pursue outer-space research involving human DNA. Also on the trip are Reed's best friend, Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis); his former lover, Sue Storm (Jessica Alba), who's now Doom's employee and love interest; and her hotshot-pilot brother, Johnny Storm (Chris Evans). Things don't go as planned, of course, and the quartet becomes blessed--or is it cursed?--with superhuman powers: flexibility, brute strength, invisibility and projecting force fields, and bursting into flame. Meanwhile, Doom himself is undergoing a transformation. P Among the many entries in the comic-book-movie frenzy, IFantastic Four/I is refreshing because it doesn't take itself too seriously. Characterisation isn't too deep, and the action is a bit sparse until the final reel (like most "first" superhero movies, it has to go through the "how did we get these powers and what we will do with them?" churn). But it's a good-looking cast, and original comic-book co-creator Stan Lee makes his most significant Marvel-movie cameo yet, in a speaking role as the FF's steadfast postal carrier, Willie Lumpkin. Newcomers to superhero movies might find the idea of a family with flexibility, strength, invisibility, and force fields a retread of IThe Incredibles/I, but Pixar's animated film was very much a tribute to the FF and other heroes of the last 40 years. The irony is that while IFantastic Four/I is an enjoyable B-grade movie, it's the tribute, IThe Incredibles/I, that turned out to be a film for the ages.--IDavid Horiuchi, Amazon.com /I

Fantastic December 5, 2005 A. Ciantar (uk) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
One of the best films i have seen this year. There are great special effects, superb acting and a solid story line. But this is not one of your average run of the mill super hero stories, it is also about the effects of being super on the heroes themselves. Having to cope with the publicity, and the fact that they are actualy heroes. it is funny, romantic, and action packed. plus its suitable for all ages, not to mention the actors aren#x27;t particularly awfull looking!
Well worth a watch January 20, 2006 Teflon32 (France) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Never having read the comics and only seeing the cartoon I thought the adverts for this film meant it would be worth a look, and I was right. I liked all the cheesy one liners the acting and the story, I am I must admit a fan of such films and can not wait for X-men 3, Spiderman 3 0r hopefully the sequal to this. brAll kids will love it mine only saw 20 minutes of the film before school and were hooked. I think its important people remember these people are not real and its all about imagination and fun, reality really has nothing to do with it and these films should be watched with this in mind.

I thought this film was great, although I have to agree with other reviews that it does contain cheesey lines!, But if you#x27;re like me and love all the comic book heros saying cheesey lines and fighting the bad guys then watch this and you won#x27;t be disappointed.brPlus I love the characters especially the Thing played by Michael Chiklis and Victor Von Doom aka Doctor Doom played by Julian McMahon.brSee this film!

Fun to watch March 2, 2008 J. WILLIS (Grimsby, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
So I give my rating on the basis of expecting a fun film - nothing too heavy, a bit of action and to come away from it feeling good - if I want serious there's plenty of other stuff I go for :-)
br /
br /Watched it twice in the last few days - if you're looking for a bargain, go find the Marvel Heroes box set that includes this film plus X-Men 1-3, Daredevil and Electra.
br /
br /Overall much better than I had expected given reviews and general reaction to it's original cinema release. The special effects were good, it moved at a good pace.
br /
br /And if you want serious and heavy, look elsewhere.
