Amazon.co.uk Review Featuring the best special effects that money can buy and a screenplay that any six-year-old could follow, IStealth/I is a pure action thriller that starts fast and never slows down. P Moving up from IThe Fast and the Furious/I and IxXx/I, director Rob Cohen proves himself as a master of popcorn entertainment for teenagers, turning this derivative military sci-fi action thriller into a dazzling showcase for impressive aerial action sequences, featuring digital effects and highly detailed model work (by James Cameron's Digital Domain effects company, among others) that are so realistic you could swear the movie's high-tech aircraft are absolutely real. The plot serves the effects (it should be the other way around), and it's a cheesy hybrid of ITop Gun/I, IThe Right Stuff/I, IFirefox/I and IBehind Enemy Lines/I, in which a close-knit trio of Naval Air Force aces (Josh Lucas, Jessica Biel, and Jamie Foxx) pilot state-of-the-art "Talon" fighter-bombers, ready to scramble on orders from their not-entirely trustworthy commander (Sam Shepard). They're teamed up with an ultra-high-tech UCAV (Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle) nicknamed "EDI," an artificially intelligent fighter drone that's as erratically dangerous (after its circuitry is damaged by lightning) as it is deadly effective. P With a standard third-act rescue mission amidst the threat of global warfare, IStealth/I is brainless entertainment from start to finish, but the aerial action and epic-scale pyrotechnics ensure that it's never, ever boring. Cohen may be guilty of dumbing down his recycled plots for mass appeal, but there's no denying his skills as an action auteur. Move over, Michael Bay, you've got serious competition. i--Jeff Shannon/i

Blows Top Gun Away October 25, 2005 D. Burkinshaw 34 out of 45 found this review helpful
After listening to all the critics blasting this film i was afraid to watch it thinking it must be awful.brAll i can say is ignore the critics. It seems if a film does`nt have Hugh Grant or Emma Thompson in it or is a low budget polish film about a drug taking binman it must be rubbish.pSure the acting could have been better, but its not the acting you go to see in an action film like this.brThe special effects are top notch,so much so that when there taking off and landing on the aircraft carrier i was convinced they must have built the aircraft.pSo if you loved the flight scenes from Top Gun and don`t mind a bit of dumbed down acting then i highly recommend this.
Very entertaining. December 27, 2006 Mr. S. F. H. Gilani (uk) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful

Why Did This Movie Bomb at the Box Office??? July 26, 2007 Max (ROI) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this film with an open mind after hearing so many negative reviews, and after watching it I can honestly say I can't understand why this movie wasn't a box office success. I suppose there isn't much in the way of story, but the basic hook is: a new state-of-the-art fighter jet controlled only by artificial intelligence, develops a mind of its own and decides to do what it wants and not take any orders.
br /But aside from the fairly basic story, the action in this movie is brilliant, and there's a lot of it - and the Special FX are top-notch. So all-in-all, if your looking for a movie that will get the heart racing and the adrenaline pumping without having to use your brain too much - watch this movie. IN my opinion is was definitely worth buying for the cheap prices you can get on this site, because the action sequences are impressive enough to watch several times...
br /I suppose the only reason this was such an infamously huge failure at the box office was becasue it wasnt marketed and advertised properly. If people had been told exactly what this movie offers, I'm sure it would have done a lot better...
br /5/5.
Everything a summer blockbuster is supposed to be March 8, 2006 Daniel Jolley (Shelby, North Carolina USA) 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
I don't understand how Stealth could have performed so poorly at the box office, as it has everything a summer blockbuster is supposed to have: lots and lots of things that go boom, plenty of intense action, solid performances all around, and even an original story as opposed to a sequel. I'm here to tell you that I loved this movie; with all of its intense aerial sequences, geopolitical hop-scotch, and heroics, I can't find much of anything not to like about Stealth.pThe premise of the movie may be simple, but I found the story pretty darn impressive. There just aren't that many movies that give you no less than three major incidents that could easily ignite World War III. Yes, the film does ignore all of the unimaginable political ramifications in the end, but that's a job best left for the politicians and a possible sequel (unlikely, given the box office returns). This is really the story of four pilots, the most elite fighter pilots the Navy has: Ben Gannon (Josh Lucas), your typical cocky squad leader; Kara Wade (Jessica Biel), a veritable poster girl for the Navy who always seems overly concerned about collateral damage; wingman Henry Purcell (Jamie Foxx), and a mystery pilot who turns out to be somewhat unusual indeed. EDI represents the cutting edge of near future technology, a self-supporting unmanned combat aerial vehicle. I'm not talking about a Predator being flown around by a human via remote control. Eddy (as I'll call him) can operate entirely on his own if need be, although he is supposed to follow the orders of his superiors. Above and beyond making his own decisions, however, Eddy has the capacity to learn. All of this sounds like a great idea, and it is - until Eddy starts thinking on his own and countermanding direct orders. He's only trying to fulfill his purpose as a war plane designed to take out enemies - but the trouble is that he has gained access to virtually every military file out there, including Black Ops, and thinks he knows best how to destroy all of America's enemies. It's not really his fault, though, as a bolt of lightning kick started him from artificial intelligence infancy to his turbulent teenager phase.pOnce Eddy goes rogue, it's a desperate race to bring him back under control before he can start World War III. He really leaves his mark across the whole swath of Asia as his three human squad mates risk their lives to talk some sense into him. It makes for an almost nonstop adrenaline rush all the way to the ending credits. The plot thickens, however, as the squad's commander, Captain Cummings (Sam Shepard), employs an increasingly questionable form of damage control designed to cover his own you know what. Of course, no one can cover up a series of disasters involving international incidents with both the Russians and the North Koreans. pThe filmmakers dropped a bundle on the special effects for this film, and they got their money's worth. Every piece of action looks and feels real; when it comes to next-generation fighter jets performing unbelievable maneuvers over a variety of terrains, no other film can even touch Stealth. That's one of the reasons it really was THE adrenaline rush of 2005. Even if you don't like the story, it's a thrill to just sit back and watch the incredible special effects. I for one happen to like the story a great deal, which is why I consider Stealth a slam dunk summer blockbuster, no matter how much money it lost.
This is my favourite film September 19, 2006 Lewis J. Gray (UK) 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
Normally I don't bother with this but after reading some of the other reviews on this page I felt i had to defend this really rather good film.
br /
br /This is just a genuinely entertaining movie, and isn't that the point of a movie? Woohoo to the goon below, who 'knew' what was going to happen in the first 15 minutes, well done him. I bet he spoiled Titanic for everyone too.
br /
br /Yes it is a bit silly, but silly in a way that puts a big smile on your face for two hours.
br /
br /I keep reading people say 'it takes itself too seriously', and am suprised as in my opinion the only film i've ever seen that takes itself less seriously is 'A Knights Tale'. Infact reading some of these reviews, i think what they probably meant was 'i take myself too seriously'...
br /
br /I also keep reading that it's too far fetched. As someone who know's quite a lot about planes (sorry i'm sinking pretty low here), i can honestly say that it's not. OK, yes it will be a long while before we see Artificial Intelligence like that in the film, but given that the 'state of the art' fighters around at the minute (Eurofighter, F22 etc) were all designed in th early eighties, you get the picture... Anyway, WHO CARES?? it's a movies for crying out load!
br /
br /This is just an action movie with a bit of everything, and it does actually raise a few philosophical and morality questions at the same time. Which is nice.
br /
br /Anyway, anyway, anyway, I lent it to my tutor at university, a world leader in Unmanned Air Vehicals (by the way...), and he said it was good. so there.
