Amazon.co.uk Review
Remember the old days, when Pamela Anderson was still just a Playboy Playmate turned Baywatch babe? You know--back before the bootleg release of her infamous home video with then-husband and ne'er-do-well rocker Tommy Lee, at which time the whole world got to compare Pam's barely adequate acting chops with her formidable skill at fellatio? Yes, those were the days (1996, to be exact), when a movie like iBarb Wire/i represented dubious progress for the busty blonde, who was determined to make as big a splash on the big-screen as she did in the world's most popular syndicated TV series. Set in the year 2017 when the Second Civil War is in full force, this sci-fi action thriller stars Pam in the title role--a leather-clad biker babe ("don't call me babe," she warns) who runs a nightclub in the last free city in America. The rest of country is controlled by the "Congressional Directorate," a dictatorial superpower which suspects Barb of trafficking in black-market contraband. That gets her into plenty of trouble (and a lot of cleavage-revealing costumes), and ... well, if any of this sounds even vaguely familiar, it's because this comic book-inspired movie is really just a shamelessly breast-enhanced variation on iCasablanca,/i with Pam Anderson in the Bogart role. Taken for what it is, it's a brazen folly with action to spare, and as guilty pleasures go it's surprisingly enjoyable. What--you were expecting Oscar material? --iJeff Shannon/i

4 out of 5 stars Barb wire was funny and cheesy!   June 22, 2009

This film was good for a laugh, with its cheesy script and excuses to get Pam Anderson's clothes off! Worth it for a giggle.

2 out of 5 stars Alright For Light Watching, Don't Expect Much More   January 12, 2008

Pamela Anderson Lee is Barb Wire, a bar owner who also is a fighter - she gets hired to wipe people out, put an end of infidels and other people the controlled society doesn't like. She's got the skills, and the proceeds go into her bar. Barb has all sorts of jobs, including pretending to be a call-girl and then wipe out the punter; which is done with immense style. br /Barb gets a bit of an awakening when an old friend comes by and puts her faith back into mankind. br / br /This is a stylish movie, very dark at all times (lighting and temprement), and has a dark sense of humour. Pamela Anderson Lee isn't bad in this, but at times she's a bit wooden. I think she loved this role because she could dress up in tight leather clothes and prance around with a gun; but when the more serious parts come along she does seem to struggle. br / br /The storyline is very predictable, but it's not really that serious as movies go. This is one of those you can just watch without analysing it; it's got no sublime sub-plot or anything exciting, it's just straight fighting - and it's entertaining up to a point. I thought the scenes in the bar were dragged out, but otherwise it's an alright film. br / br /Would rent rather than buy though, it's got no real elastic appeal.

I purchased this film for less than £2 so i was not expecting anything beyond a simple action film. WRONG - this film is one of the worst i have ever watched. From the begging we are subjected to the worst acting i have ever seen - seriousy! What follows is a total waste of time, rubbish sets and crappy villians. Total absence of talent and pride from everyone involved - just glad they didn't make a sequel!
