Amazon.co.uk Review Prudes, beware! Despite its tendency to take the comedic low road, emThe Sweetest Thing/em is a near-perfect product of the new-millennial Hollywood. That's a backhanded compliment, but as a fun-loving Yankee girl's answer to emBridget Jones's Diary/em, the mainstream pandering of Nancy Pimental's lucrative screenplay is undeniably effective. On the opening soundtrack, Macy Gray's "Sexual Revolution" is a perfect accompaniment to gyrating guy-dumper Christina (Cameron Diaz), whose fear of commitment is tested when she meets Peter (Thomas Jane) and knows he's Mr. Right. With supportive gal-pals Courtney (Christina Applegate) and Jane (Selma Blair), she plots to snag the guy, and the movie's road-trip detour mines gut-busting gold from gags involving incriminating dress stains, oral sex, rotting food, garish clothing, and the simple joys of old-fashioned romance. Perfectly cast, raucously ribald, and conventionally charming, emThe Sweetest Thing/em is a schizophrenic comedy, but its dual personalities are irresistibly in synch. --emJeff Shannon/em

Absolutely hilarious August 18, 2008 S. Brown (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Do not be put off by the terrible reviews here, this film is really very funny. It does not set out to be amazingly witty and groundbreaking and you should take it for what it is: slapstick girly comedy. It is one of my favourite films as it is just a great feel-good comedy complete with some absolutely hilarious scenes. Similar to the humour seen in There's something about Mary, this film is great to watch if you're feeling a bit down as it never fails in making me laugh!

i just relised when watching this film for the millionth time the other day that relly it's quiet rubbish.i mean the story line isnt that great,it istn very long and nothing much happens.but to tell the truth it is absoultly brilliant.it's the funniest film i have EVER seen in my life.it reminds me a lot me and my best friend and we love watching it toghther it just never gets old i laugh so hard every time i see it.they just have shoved loads of random funny stuff toghter made up a random story to go with it and called it a movie and it is so great.it's a total chick flick so watch it with your best mates.and trust me watch it
the sweetest thing dvd October 26, 2009 Mrs. S. J. Thurland (uk) love this film, really funny,i can watch it over and over again, did have it on video but decided i wanted the dvd.
A movie full of laughs for the girls and guys!! January 11, 2008 leannesg1986 (England) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is your classic laugh a minute chick flick, You've got the happy ending, the cringe moments, the bits that make you go 'aww' and the giggles. The song in the restaurant is just classic and I haven't been able to listen to Right Said Fred's 'I'm too sexy' without bursting into 'You're too big' since!! You'll never be able to listen to Aerosmiths 'I don't wanna miss a thing' without smiling after watching this film. Although the storyline is a little poor the laughs and jokes make up for it. I'd definately recommend it for a night in with the girls or even a night in with your guy friends as I haven't sat and watched it with a guy who hasn't laughed his head off all the way through it yet!! I could watch this film again and again and it will never tire!! If you're still not sure you MUST rent it!!! :o)
A surprisingly good film! October 3, 2006 S. probert 9 out of 12 found this review helpful
Although this film did get slated by critics don't let this put you off. I rented this film before I bought it and was expecting it to be nothing special. But it was hilarious. The plot revolves around the character "Christina" (played by cameron diaz) chasing a guy that she met in a club one nite across the country. Then she finds out he's getting married and I won't tell you nay more than it's your typical happy ending. However, besides the weak plotline the gags and situations the three friends are put into are incredibly funny. It may not be worth buying if your not sure, but definately a great film to rent for a girls nite in.
