Outstanding February 2, 2006 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I cannot believe the critics slated this film. I found the acting and the direction amazing. The film is true to the book and in the same way although it is about subjects that are both upsetting and difficult to deal with it leaves you with a feeling of hope. I think it paints the picture extremely vividly and whilst you could never agree with Sarah#x27;s treatment of JT you do gain an understanding of why she is the way she is, as she is the product of a very troubled past which has obviously done irrepairable damage. It also manages to portray the love JT has for Sarah despite everything and the way he wants to protect her even though it is she who should have been protecting him. It leaves you with the sense that even though JT had to struggle through great adversity he came through it and not only survived but is a strong and very special person because of it. It is a harsh look at a reality most of us are lucky to never have to be a part of but it is dealt with in a way which whilst telling the story openly doesn#x27;t glorify or relish in the ugliness of the situations. That is why I recommend you should see this film.

whether or not the author is a hoax is irrelevant.. film makers don't come along like this everyday.. asia argento is amazing, both as an actress and a director.. i truely believed that she could ahve been in the situations her character was in.

Amazing March 26, 2006 Candyflower (Kent) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Although very gritty and unsettling subjects, I feel this film should be praised for the way Asia Argento deals with it. Both as a director and as Sarah, Argento is stunning beyond words.Heartbreaking, the film shows JTs undying devotion to his mother even though she cruel beyond words. However, the film never judges, only portrays why Sarah is who she is and why things happen to JT. It really is a unique portrayal of life that still happens and I strongly recommend it.
Ferocious and engrossing December 28, 2005 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I#x27;d been wanting to see this movie ever since I#x27;d heard about it. I didn#x27;t manage to catch it at the cinema, it had a very limited release, but wow, it#x27;s worth waiting for.pBased on the book by JT Leroy, which is in turn based on his early life, and directed by and starring Asia Argento, this book charts the early years of Jeremiah, a child taken back from his foster parents by his mother, and dragged around from seedy motel to violent relationship and back again. He ends up with his fanantically religious grandparents for a while, which is little better, before being taken away by his mother again.pI was bowled over by the sheer quality of the acting, the direction, the cinematography, everything. It#x27;s a shocking, painful film, but it has a strange beauty. I was expecting it to be hard to watch, but the film just flew by. Really worth seeing if you fancy something different.
Asia Argento's film April 15, 2007 S. Redding 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Absolutely brilliant. A masterpiece, Asia Argento is breathtaking. A very good portrayal of America in those days and an excellent distribution. All the performances of the actors are good if not excellent. A DVD worth purchasing.
