| Customer Reviews: Bonus tracks make it 5 star December 23, 2008 Rocking Geoff (Dorset UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The first part of the concert is ok and the picture quality, although not great, is good enough for a big screen. The bonus tracks really make the dvd special and the 12 minutes that Fats D. plays along with Jerry Lee, Ray Charles and Ronnie Wood makes the whole session come alive. Seldom do we see four such legends play together in such a relaxed mood with the crowd really enjoying it. If you enjoy such sessions then check out 'Blue Suede Shoes' with Carl Perkins, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Roxanne Cash, Ringo Star and Dave Edmonds. Excellent quality as well! I recorded it on vhs when it was aired in '84 and then later it came out on dvd. It would be good to have access to more imaginative liveBlue Suede Shoes - A Rockabilly Session [1985] sessions.
Fats is fabulous, but the DVD is merely OK October 20, 2007 pixiepoison 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
The DVD captures a single concert and Fats is on top form, he really is a living legend. The concert's location is not mentioned and there's no date, but it appears to have been filmed in the mid-80's/early-90's. It's about 49 minutes long, and covers seventeen tracks.
br /
br /The only problem is with the quality of the DVD - it's really just a transfer of an old VHS videotape. Having said that, the audio is good, with a nice balance between Fats' voice and the music.
br /
br /The video also (very) occasionally cuts from the live performance to a montage of pictures of Fats throughout the years, which is a bit distracting, as it's sometimes mid-way through a song, but as the audio keeps playing, it's not too enjoyment-destroying.
br /
br /There are also four bonus tracks which sees Fats share the stage with Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis and Ronnie Wood.
br /
br /So, in summary, an OK DVD of a great performance by a living legend. Any fan of Fats Domnio will love it, but just be prepared for a substandard DVD.

br /The song titles appear on-screen just as each song starts, which would be nice if they could be turned off, as many fans will recognise the introductions, but they're burned onto the film, so can't be turned off. Not a major thing, but they annoy me!
br /
br /There's also scrolling text biographies of Fats Domino, Ray Charles and Jerry Lee Lewis included as a bonus, which is a nice feature, but the yellow text makes it look like the intro to a Star Wars movie.
br /
br /PS - If you're a big fan of Fats Domino, check out the Walking to New Orleans CD collection which contains 100 tracks - it's excellent.
