Amazon.co.uk Review
Bound by love for their slain adoptive mother, the brothers in IFour Brothers/I form a unique quartet that gives John Singleton's film a razor's edge of redemption. It's a thin edge, to be sure, because while Singleton's urban Western pays homage to the Blaxpoitation films of the '70s (as he did with his remake of IShaft/I), it walks a fine line of credibility with a mythic vengeance plot (recalling John Wayne's 1965 hit IThe Sons of Katie Elder/I) that endorses violence as the last resort of a family under siege. P When a saintly foster mother (Fionnula Flanagan) is gunned down in a convenience store, her only adopted sons (two white, two black, played respectively by Mark Wahlberg, Garrett Hedlund, Tyrese Gibson and Andre Benjamin) go after the killers, only to discover that their mother's death was not a random event. As they uncover a sticky web of criminal activity involving a local kingpin (Chiwitel Ejiofor), the character-driven plot races toward an inevitable showdown, with ex-con Wahlberg leading the way. P Making excellent use of blue collar locations in Detroit, Singleton keeps the action moving fast enough that the film's lack of realism is easily ignored, and the well-drawn characters (including Terrence Howard as a tenacious detective) lend emotional dimension to an otherwise familiar revenge scenario. IFour Brothers/I is manipulative, but it's filled with grace notes of rugged working-class humanity, and it definitely holds your attention.-- IJeff Shannon/I

5 out of 5 stars Four Brothers, Five Stars...   January 30, 2006

Considering the fact that this type of movie doesn#x27;t usually appeal to me, it was especially pleasing to leave the cinema feeling totally satisfied following this rollercoaster ride of a movie. As soon as the credits were rolling, I was promising myself the DVD.pI won#x27;t go into huge detail, but the #x27;heroes#x27; if you will, led by the fantastic Mark Wahlberg, are the perfect characters for this film - an excellent blend of no-nonsense toughness, blunt humour and raw emotion. pThe film mixes amazing fight scenes with both comedy moments and heart-wrenching scenes, and at times Four Brothers is genuinely shocking. This isn#x27;t only thanks to the brutality with which victims are dealt with in this gangster-type flick, but with surprising and sometimes desperately sad plot twists.pThe film ends perfectly, and it#x27;s not often a movie of this nature leaves me with a warm glow inside. But the perfect combination of violence, emotion and humour in Four Brothers leads to an engrossing and highly enjoyable experience.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic film, not famous but still good   January 25, 2006

Appalled to see someone slating one of my favorite films of 2005! Although not well known and a a little insulting to the intelligence 1 star is never fair. The film wasnt filmed for that purpose but for the thrills and passion of taking the law into your own hands whilst being driven by emotion. Only writing this so the average for this film isnt 1 star as that is an outrage!!

I saw this film a few times at the cinema. I found it to be really good. The action sequences were really good and the acting was good as well. The storyline was not basic so you didn't know what was going to happen exactly.brI will happily recommend this movie to anyone. If you enjoy films like Snatch, Lock Stock, Layer Cake, then you will enjoy this film.

5 out of 5 stars A Gritty Drama, Immersed in Action   April 4, 2006

If you like a gritty drama immersed in action then this is the film for you. Four adopted brothers show that the bonds of brotherhood are much stronger than those of blood as they take vengeance on those who killed their mother. An urban western set in Detroit creates a desolate backdrop for adrenalin-pumped car chases and sophisticated shoot-outs. Not just your average action movie from director John Singleton (e.g. 2Fast 2Furious) the powerful performances from Mark Wahlberg, Tyrese Gibson, Andre Benjamin and Garrett Hedlund will guarantee to get you emotionally involved, hoping that the brothers will reap the revenge they set out for.

5 out of 5 stars Mark Wharlberg is brilliant   October 16, 2006

Four Brothers is a brilliant film and probably John Singleton's best film since Boyz N The Hood! I knew next to nothing before I saw Four Brothers and only saw it as there was nothing else on, but I'm glad I did as it's become one of my favourite films. br / br /The plot is really simple with four brothers trying to find out the reasons behind their mother's death. This is old fashioned detective story and all the clichés are there, but that's not why you fall in love with this story, it's the cast.... br / br /The cast is brilliant with some quality acting that makes you fall in love with the story and really gets you routing for some characters who show through their actions that they're not that nice. The real standout is Mark Wharlberg who gives the best performance of his carrear and really stands out as the older brother, Bobby. The other standout (in a very talented cast) is Andre Benjamin, the outkast singer really making you care about this character and understand how he's torn between his family and his `brothers'. br / br /This film also contains one of the best car chases that I have ever seen, all set on a dark snowy night with the cars sliding all over the road. br / br /I utterly recommend that you give Four Brothers a try as I promise that you won't be dissapointed. br /
