| Customer Reviews: Unusual Black Comedy May 7, 2006 E. Hetherington (Sunderland, UK) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is certainly not a conventional film. The plot is far from linear, and not all of the questions raised during the movie are answered. However, this is an adaptation of a novel entitled "No-one Thinks of Greenland" by John Griesemer, and the movie reflects the uncertainty and moral ambivalence of the novel. In terms of comprison, the closest narrative I can think of is "Catch-22", and not just due to the shared military setting. The humour in Guy X is pitch black, and the characters well-observed, and I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone who doesn't need a film to spoon-feed them neat conclusions.
Well Meaning But Insignificant May 16, 2006 martianbookclub (UK) 6 out of 9 found this review helpful
I rented this film on the basis of a review saying "Jason Biggs is a comedy genius". I daresay he is, but you wouldn't know that from watching this film. It's not a comedy, it's not an anti-war film, it's not a love story, it's a nothing.

br /Good performances from Biggs and Northam which amount to nothing. The woefully miscast Natascha McElhone makes no impact (other than raising the question 'if she's so cheesed off, what is she smiling at?')
br /
br /The film lacks strong direction and cohesive plot and so it loses it's focus quite early on. It's sad because does start well and it's a nice looking film. I think it has aspirations of being M*A*S*H but lacked the confidence.

br /There's an air of lost hope about this film, one that suggests that the makers said 'I'm bored of this, let's pack up and get out of here' to themselves. So they do, leaving you feeling short changed and a bit sorry for it.
Guy X March 10, 2006 G. E. Edmondson (United Kingdom) 9 out of 16 found this review helpful
When I saw the trailer for this film it looked very dark and very funny. I have now realised how clever editors are and how false trailers can be!pGuy X appeared to be about a soldier who is posted to Greenland instead of Hawaii and spends his time trying to escape back to civilisation, with the help of a puffin. This is how the film starts, but then goes off at a tangent when he encounters an underground medical facility with wounded and dying men inside, which are somehow linked to the CO of the base. This storyline takes up the remainder of the film but with no satisfactory conclusion as to why they are there, who they really are, the purpose of this story.pThis film is attempting to be many things, and fails miserabley. It is advertised as a black comedy, but is not at all funny - alas not even the puffin managed to coax a chuckle. pI got the impression that neither the writers nor director knew which direction this film was taking, so filmed as much as possible in the hope it would all come right in the end. It didn#x27;t. pExtremely poor and immensely disappointing.
