This is the best series on television incorporating clever stories combined with an excellent cast. They each carry a certain amount of personal baggage which makes them more endearing and they also make mistakes which makes them real. Congratulaions to all for this great series and to the BBC for airing it. (...)
New Tricks, new and fresh February 24, 2007 Konstanze Allsopp (Great Britain) 24 out of 24 found this review helpful
The series is a wonderfully different take on forensic, cold case storylines. The interaction between the four actors that make up the team, is hilarious and at the same time, full of great tensions and xhemistry. The individual stories are original and often quirky. I'm glad that so far the BBC has not pulled the series, which they tend to do with the better series they produce, but it would be nice if they released Series 3 asap. It has been a long time in coming and I'm sure I'm not the only person eagerly awaiting Series 3.

Builds on the first series July 30, 2009 Blackhorse47 (Moray, Scotland) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Series 2, like all subsequent series, has eight episodes, and also like the other series there aren't any weak episodes. With Clarke gone, the angry and somewhat cliched boss Bevan is replaced by a more believable character of Strickland, the modern officer concerned with budgets and office politics. Strickland may crack the whip, but only when necessary and he's free with the praise when it's warranted.
br /
br /Even though the characters were pretty clearly defined from the very first episode, by season 2 the method by which each one will go about solving the crime now becomes very obvious, and it's a pleasure to watch how their different techniques complement and sometimes rub up against each other. Brian will use his vast memory and analytical skills, Jack will engage in dogged police work, Gerry will cut corners and Sandra will try to bring them all together.
br /
br /Increasingly the private lives of the leads start to be shown with Sandra's troubled private life, Brian's long-suffering wife, Gerry's complex family and Jack's lonely life. But they also increasingly are shown to enjoy spending time together off duty and so the feeling of family becomes more apparent.
br /
br /Enjoy, laugh, and marvel at the way the often complex and unexpected solutions to the mysteries are effortlessly presented. This is the standard against which all popular drama should be judged.
