4 out of 5 stars Moody Monday   March 26, 2008

This sultry movie set in Tyneside moves at a slow and gentle pace yet this only seems to add to the jazz atmospheric backdrop. I'm not a huge jazz fan but I couldn't help admiring the music score. Well worth a look - it depends on the mood you're in. Sean Bean is dependable as Brendan, but watch out for Sting who steals the limelight.

3 out of 5 stars 1980s Newcastle   June 17, 2009
SALLYKATE (Spain)
I first (and last) visited Newcastle in the 1980s, so it looked just like it does in this film; elegant decadence, awaiting the money and redevelopment which must have come later. br /Whether they came via suspect American "businessmen" like the one Tommy Lee Jones plays in Stormy Monday, who knows? br /Sean Bean and Melanie Griffiths take the romantic lead with cool 1980s haircuts and clothes, while Sting is Finney, a Jazz club owner whom Cosmo (Jones) is trying to involve in a land development deal. br /The views of Newcastle, always including the river Tyne are spectacular. br /Also spectacular is the jazz which infiltrates almost every part of this film "noir". br /
