Amazon.co.uk Review Better action, a bit of sex, and gorier R-rated violence make IUnderworld: Evolution/I a reasonably satisfying sequel to 2003's surprise hit IUnderworld/I. Looking stunning as ever in her black leather battle gear, Kate Beckinsale is every goth guy's fantasy as Selene, the vampire "death dealer" who's now fighting to stop the release of the original "Lycan" werewolf, William (Brian Steele) from the prison that's held him for centuries. As we learn from the film's action-packed prologue, William and his brother Marcus (Tony Curran) began the bloodline of vampires and werewolves, and after witnessing centuries of warfare between them, their immortal father Corvinus (Derek Jacobi) now seeks Selene and the human vampire/lycan hybrid Michael (Scott Speedman) to put an end to the war perpetuated by Victor (Bill Nighy), the vampire warrior whose betrayal of Selene turns IUnderworld: Evolution/I into an epic tale of familial revenge. This ambitious attempt at Shakespearean horror is compromised by a script (by Danny McBride and returning director Len Wiseman, Beckinsale's real-life husband) that's more confusing than it needs to be, with too many characters and not enough storytelling detail to flesh them all out. Aspiring to greatness and falling well short of that goal, IUnderworld: Evolution/I succeeds instead as a full-throttle action/horror thriller, with enough swordplay, gunplay, and CGI monsters to justify the continuation of the IUnderworld/I franchise. If you're an established fan, this is a must-see movie; if not, well... at least it's better than IVan Helsing/I! --IJeff Shannon/I

Bloody brilliant!!! May 5, 2006 M. Ivanova (London, uk) 17 out of 25 found this review helpful
I loved the first one, and was a bit afraid to see this one, because usually first ones are better, but this is fun! If in the first one it was pretty much in one city, now they travel a lot, well, on the run! And we get to see different places, new people, more background, LOVED IT!
More Vampire Werewolf goodness June 21, 2006 T. R. Alexander (East Anglia, UK) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Evolution takes off pretty much were Underworld finished and continues the trials and tribulations of Selene and Michael. As well as this the film also adds a lot to its own mythology, using flashbacks and explanations to reveal the origins of the two immortal races. At the end of the last film it was revealed that the last remaining head vampire had been turned into a hybrid similar to Michael and Evolution shows him in all his glory, seeking to find his imprisoned brother, the creator of the werewolves, so they could create a new race of hybrid immortals.

br /Although I would probably have to say that Evolution isn't quite as good a film as the first, it does still have a lot of good ideas and a great story. The main criticism I have is that there were a few things introduced in this film that were not fully explored as much as they could have been, such as the organization headed by Alexander Corvinus. Although the film can feel slightly predictable in places, Underworld Evolution is great and Kate Beckinsale is as beautiful as ever.
Loved it! September 14, 2006 Ms. S. E. George (Wiltshire, UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Loved the original, love the new one! This one is gorier, sexier and just amazing on the whole. True, there is much more CG usage, but the plot line is fab and don't we all just love seeing Scott Speedman's lovely buff bod? Well, except most of you guys that is! Action packed, fast paced and lots of blood (always great in a movie like this!) the ending is open enough to suggest a third movie, God I hope so! If you're not a fan of gore, you probably shouldn't watch it, there is a LOT of blood!
Very Good January 31, 2007 Mr. D. J. W. Walsh (Brixham) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
I thought Underworld 1 was ok, but the second one i really got into.
br /It wasnt anything like Blade which is a major favourite of mine but it does offer a dramatic story along with fangtastic action.
br /
br /I also loved this film because it picked off EXACTLY where the first film finished which was genious.
