Season two of the television phenomenon that is ILost/I is where the questions, in many senses, started to be asked. Picking up directly after that first season cliffhanger, it sets off at a belting pace, continuing the adventures of a group of people stranded on a desert island following a place crash. Only, as becomes increasingly clear, the island is a mysterious place, and the survivors appear not to be alone.PIn true ILost/I fashion, the second season of the show is far better at firing out fresh questions than resolving previous ones, although again, it delights in throwing out clues that the web-inclines can research across the legion of unofficial fan websites. For the viewer of the second series of ILost/I though, there's plenty to like, and plenty to tear their hair out over.POn the downside, after an intriguing beginning, too much of the second series settles into a comfortable rhythm, conforming too rigidly to a recipe of plenty of backstory, and not too much advancement of the main narrative. It's a device that worked first time round, but becomes tiring during the saggy middle episodes. It's a fair argument too that things move far too slowly and for little good reason.PThe upsides? Again, quite a few. There's little doubt that the premise still holds intrigue, and the top and tail of season two are excellent. The last quarter, for instance, is both meaty and very entertaining, even offering clues to how the whole show may eventually end. So while even the ILost/I purest will surely conclude that season two is an uneven dish, there's still much to feast on, albeit with the hope that season three gets round to answering a few more question. The first season of Lost was refreshingly different and a real rollercoaster ride of cliffhangers and revelations.
br /Season 2 approaches things differently and to get the most out of it you need to be prepared for a slower and more thoughtful story.
br /As new characters are introduced the overall story expands and as the survivors explore what was beneath the hatch we slowly learn little bits of what the mysterious island may be about.
br /As before peoples backstories are revealed and the 'others' begin to exert a stronger influence.
br /Now confident and reassured of a hit show unlikely to be cancelled those responsible for the show take their time to allow the characters to grow and to explore. While this can sometimes slow things down a little the shocks and surprises are still there and as before they begin to pile up as the season gets into it's stride at the halfway point and sure enough come the finale you're left to pull your hair out as another cliffhanger leaves you looking forward to season 3.
br /The introduction of new people is particularly well handled as they are interesting and pretty feisty.
br /Needless to say there really isn't much else on T.V that can compete with Lost and if you have yet to see any then start at the beginning and enjoy. This programme is very well suited to DVD as it allows you to let the story-line flow more by "just watching one more".
br /The series is very well served once again on DVD as the 5.1 surround is atmospheric and clear as a bell and the picture quality is exemplary and extras are plentiful and most are more than just the usual backslapping.
br /Lost evolves into a more considered and mature programme in season 2 and is all the better for it.
br /Fully recommended.

Wow! Just when I thought that this show couldn't get any better at the end of season 1, season 2 proves me wrong as this season is just simply incredible.

br /It begins with the hatch being opened and the first meetings with some new characters, so it's not short of excitement at all. Some questions are answered as the series goes on and some more are created. More characters are introduced whilst others are killed off, which can be quite surprising as some scenes are just so unpredictable. So many more background stories giving insight into the characters' backgrounds are given in the flashback sequences, going even further back into their pasts than just the few days leading up to the flight. Some character cross-overs are also developed nearer to the end of the series.

br /I'm not going to go into the details of the story as it's all already been covered in the other reviews on here or I just simply don't want to reveal anything about the story for those who have not seen it yet, but what I am going to say is - you must watch this show as it is amazing! Probably the best TV show to come out of the US since The X Files, Twin Peaks The Twilight Zone before that. It doesn't slip in quality for one moment and each episode always ends with a cliffhanger to make you want to watch one more. I can't recommend this show highly enough and it is a completely unmissable show.

The annoying thing about Season 1 of Lost was the cliff-hanger at the end and in Season 2 the same thing happens.......I just screamed at the tv when it ended....'noooooooo'. These guys do cliff-hangers and they do them well. Even though S2 cleared up many questions left hanging from S1 it also ended with more questions than ever before.

br /Season 2 continues on from where S1 finished with the door to the hatch being opened. Opening the hatch was supposed to answer questions.....as you'd expect from Lost it does answer some questions....but it poses a whole lotta new ones! A few more characters join Lost this season as more survivors emerge from the other side of the island. Their introduction to the main group doesn't quite go smoothly and their characters definitely clash on one or two occasions. While S1 gave us the background to the main characters, S2 shows us the darker side of them as suspicions, jealousy and tensions soar. I don't want to say too much or I'll give the game away but one things for sure.....I'll be getting S3 as soon as it hits the shelves. I'm dying to know what happens next already......and I only finished S2 a few days ago!!!!

I've watched all 71 episodes filmed to date (1,2 and 3) and I still want to know more. I do not normally like TV series like this, especially American TV series like this (survivors on an island), BUT this is so much more than that and the characters are superbly fleshed out by the scripts.

br /For anyone new to 'Lost' I would recommend you watch a run of shows. In each 42 minute segment (24 per series) there are 2 or 3 genuinely surprising twists which are not always macro-plot twists but often subtle changes to the personality of one of the protagonists which can be even more spellbinding. The whole show is very high concept: it sort of IS about survivors of a plane crash but also ISN'T. Questions such as what they're all doing there in the first place and who was there before them are just as key.

br /And wait til you get to the first episode of series 3...

After a slightly stilted start (the first three episodes revolve around Jack, Kate and Locke's first experiences of the hatch), Lost Season 2 simply gets better and better as it progresses. Henry Ian Cusick positively shines as Desmond, while the familiar faces continue to do so.

br /Season 2's increased focus on the mythology of the island and its inhabitants may put some viewers off, but for me this simply made an already incredible programme all the more unmissable. The blistering concluding episodes take LOST Season 2 above its predecessor, making this box set a must-buy for both occasional viewers and die-hard fans alike. Roll on, Season 3!
