| Customer Reviews: A leading internet porn star challenges her life style March 6, 2007 pointone (Bournemouth UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
Moon (Juliette Marquis) has enjoyed being a leading internet porn star for a number of years with her entire working day at the porn studios relayed over the internet via webcams everywhere; then suddenly attraction to an average normal man makes her re-assess her entire life.
br /
br /The character of Moon is well developed and exceptionally well acted by Marquis, particularly the loving relationship with her father Pops (James Woods) and her acceptance of having to care for an old father with advanced Parkinson's disease.
br /
br /Thomas Arana is particularly good as Aaronson the boss of her porn film company, a great portrayal of masterful control behind a caring friendly front.
br /
br /How representative of the internet porn industry in general this film is I cannot say, but it is a convincing portrayal of porn actresses as normal caring women.
br /
br /Do not confuse this film with the brilliant but glitzy "Boogie Nights", this is a very successful real life drama.

Good performances in a flawed plot May 22, 2007 Jaybird (London, UK) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This Girl's Life is OK, not great but not completely dire.
br /
br /It is the story of Moon, a beautiful, apparently intelligent, emotionally secure young woman, who enters the sex industry at the tender age of 18 because she is "curious" and, that old chestnut, she "loves sex".
br /
br /5 years on she meets a man on a blind date who says he accepts her, but does not want to enter into a relationship with her unless she gives up the business. Apparently, this is the first time that she has questioned her work, having previously believed that she was in control of her life and career.
br /
br /Moon is torn between her attraction for this man, her need to support and care for her father, who has Parkinson's, and her paternalistic relationship with her manipulative director.
br /
br /There are good performances from all the cast, notable James Woods, who has some great lines. But the film is ultimately dishonest, because we are asked to believe that Moon can emerge from 5 years in the sex industry as pure, wide-eyed and fresh as the day she entered it; that she has close, supportive relationships with all the other women she works with, devoid of any rivalry, and other female friends outside the industry, who accept her work at face value. We are asked to believe that Moon is allowed to take her pick of a line up of men procured for her to have sex with. Oh, and apparently she never fakes orgasms at work.
br /
br /If you can get past all that, then there are some good lines in this film and some good performances. The sex is filmed tastefully, beautifully lit, with productions values you would never see on a straightforward porn film. But then, there is much less sex than in your usual top shelf material.
br /
br /The ambiguous relationship between Moon and her father is really interesting. His Parkinson's means that he sometimes mistakes Moon for her dead mother. She accepts this, sometimes overt sexuality, deflecting it without embarrassment, despite having to perform the most intimate care tasks for her father.
br /
br /Watch this film for the pretty girls and James Woods' delicious anecdotes, or don't (you won't have missed much. If you are looking for an insight into the sex industry, or support for the idea that women working in the industry are empowered, forget it.
