5 out of 5 stars A 'new' addition to the Jungle Book world   August 14, 2006
L. Smith (Cross Hills, UK)

In some ways a cross between Tarzan and Pygmalian, this retelling of Mowgli's story is an entertaining addition to anyone's collection. br /The story line of the lost child returning to the fold is well known but the performances of the actors make it a joy. John Clees as the teacher is brilliant and Cary Elwes makes a convincing upper class villain. br /I have this on VHS and am delighted to be able to replace it with the DVD to make extra room on the shelves for more.

5 out of 5 stars A secret gem   January 5, 2008

That this film seems to have disappeared into obscurity beats me. The acting of the animals - particularly the monkeys is brill and the mowgli character is very enjoyable to watch. Buy it. You can't regret it at this price.

4 out of 5 stars Jungle book in its own author's context   June 14, 2009
H. R. Mathisen (Sápmi, Norway)
Jungle book in its own author's context br /This version of Kipling's text takes us closer to the situation of the time it was written; Colonial India. The greed and arrogance of the British is aptly portrayed, and some of the actors add to the irony of «The White Mans Burden». The love story is quite convincing, and the film aims and succeeds in looking beyond the folly of its own time. I can recommend this film. br /MaHanShi
