| Customer Reviews: THAT'S A SHOW!!! August 22, 2008 Dr. Jose Santos Carvalho (Portugal) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Though full of political meaning, and trapped in a cold war time warp, Barbra has never, EVER, sung and sounded so well like she does on this DVD, specially if compared with the ones she did in Vegas recently. Pitch perfect on every single note (more than 3,000, as she herelf says in the concert), the audience is in itself a show! Everyboby who was anybody in Hollywood then, is there (no wonder, for a mere $5,000 a seat)! A historical concert, and her first in about 20 years, this one is the true TIMELESS (not the more recent one).
She is a class of her own - no other singer and entertainer has earned more awards than BARBRA STREISAND !! November 6, 2009 amazon reader 3 out of 3 found this review helpful

br /I'm a German engineer and businessman who listended to Barbra Streisand when I studied in the U.S. in the 1980ies. Her singing has always been wonderful, and she got standing ovations from the audiences.
br /
br /I lived and studied in Boston, Massachusetts and in Palo Alto, California, and I bought hundreds of LPs and CDs from various artists, but Barbra Streisand has always been my all-time favorite singer. I moved from job to job all over the world in the following 25 years after my graduation. I lived and worked in North and South America, in Australia, all over Europe. I live now inmid the desert of the Emirate Abu Dhabi. I still have all the LPs and CDs I bought in the last 30 years. BARBRA STREISAND has always been one of my all-time favorites, and I enjoy it to listen to her on my drives from Abu Dhabi City into the desert to LIWA Oasis, or to Dubai, to Al Ain, to Oman, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, ....

br /Some reviewers complain that Barbra's voice has become "older", "deeper" - to my personal impression her voice has become warmer and more mature.

br /About Barbra Streisand's success
br /
br /It's time to rack up the points on this one because Barbra has done it all. Want proof? How about this for starters: 43 gold albums, 27 platinum albums, 13 multi-platinum albums, 5 gold videos, etc. And this is only her musical career.
br /
br /She has also broken barriers in the film industry as an actress, director and producer. In 1976, she won six Golden Globes as a producer for A Star is Born and in 1983, she received five Academy Award nominations and took home a couple more Golden Globes for her directorial debut in Yentl.
br /
br /A whopping total of ten Golden Globe awards received throughout her career are the most achieved by any entertainment artist. Her second effort in the director's chair for The Prince of Tides earned Barbra seven Academy Award nominations along with a coveted nomination from the Director's Guild of America. In January 2000, she was crowned with the Golden Globe's Cecil B. DeMille Award for lifetime achievement. It's safe to assume that Miss Streisand is a go-getter, to say the least. Way to go Barb.

br /Barbra Streisand has become a timeless classic
br /Nowadays, Barbra has been keeping busy, alongside her actor/director husband James Brolin (her first marriage was to actor Elliott Gould), with ongoing charity events and special appearances. Her latest musical effort, Christmas Memories, recently hit store shelves just in time for the 2001 holiday season.
br /
br /She has also announced that she's giving up concert performances for good, in order to have more time to herself, but we're not sure when that "final" performance will be, to the delight of her millions of fans.
"Making my entrance again with my usual flair, sure of my lines ..." October 11, 2009 Nicholas Casley (Plymouth, Devon, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This concert was first released back in the 1980s and was re-released in 2006 on its twentieth anniversary with an additional two-minute introduction. Though spoken by Streisand, the introduction is merely a voice-over as we see preparations being made in the intimate surroundings of Streisand's garden in the California sunshine for the evening's performance.
br /
br /It's a shame we only get to see three-minutes of Robin Williams's excellent pre-concert warm-up, during which he claims to be the $50 of the $5,000 per ticket that the Hollywood audience has paid to hear Streisand sing. So many famous faces in the crowd!
br /
br /She opens the show coming out of nowhere singing `Somewhere'. Her hairstyle may date the concert squarely in the 1980s, but the music - excuse the cliché - IS timeless and evergreen: "Spirits rise and their dance is unrehearsed".
br /
br /The sound is good: there is no gain-run. Lyrics are provided by way of subtitles. The camerawork is very good too, as is the editing. Indeed, knowing Streisand's reputation for perfection, one would expect nothing less. And we get not one but two duets with Barry Gibb.
br /
br /Despite the good political intentions expressed in her talk to the audience - the concert was a money-raising exercise for the Democrats - alas many of the concerns that she expresses are still with us.
br /
br /It's highly unlikely that I will ever witness Streisand sing live, so this is a my chance to see her, perhaps, at her very best.
