5 out of 5 stars One Million Years BC   April 11, 2009

This film is still as good as I remember it 43 years ago .Of course there have been many films in those years with better special effects and more engrossing story lines but this is still a great monster flick.I remembered watching this at the cinema when it first was released in 1966.It did make a feature of the special effects then with volcano erupting and the earth quake .I dont think this still stands up anymore in todays world with years of nature programes and news reels going everywhere in the world being shown on our tvs .However I still enjoyed this film very much .It has a very simple story to it .Of course it features the famous Raquel Wellch, who was the fascination of most young boys then for two obvious reasons that are still facinating to me 40 years on, and the scene in the cave with the apelike creature still gave me goosebumps and had me holding my breath. br /So its still a good film worth revisiting and if you have never seen it but you know the style of the monsters then this has some realy good examples .I have always loved the flying dinosuar scene .So enjoy ,and if your a boy enjoy Miss Wellch .

4 out of 5 stars Raquel Welch was not designed by Ray Harryhausen?   August 24, 2008

Think of "Forbidden Planet" (1956) and you think of Anne Francis. There were space movies before this and after this yet Ann Francis is the definitive space babe. After watching "One Million Years B.C.", Raquel though a little fuzzy will always be in our minds. br / br /This story is the definitive girl meets Dino. It is not all just a fury story there is a script and love involved. Then there are the haps and mishaps of the Shell people Vs the Stone people. br / br /If the pre-historic menagerie looks familiar, with the exception of the iguana, we can thank Ray Harryhausen's talents. This movie is a classic on many levels and should be in your collection. br / br /If you are only interested in fur bikinis, then your next picture should be "Caveman" (1981) With Barbara Bach protruding...oops! I mean filling out a fur bikini. br / br /

3 out of 5 stars Raquel Welch and the Dinos deserve better!   July 8, 2007

br /The Good br / br /This DVD release is anamorphic widescreen. It appears to be the uncut version of the film, but it's running time is 96 minutes. However, all other sources state that the original release version is 100 minutes in length. But the deleted scenes ( edited from the American release ) listed at the Internet Movie Database are all here in this Optimum Classic "Hammer Collection" DVD. br / br /Interviews with Ray Harryhausen and Raquel Welch are included. br / br / br /The Bad br / br /The audio is not "stereo" ( as listed on the back of the DVD keep case ) - it is actually mono. br / br /There is no theatrical trailer included with the special features. br / br / br /The Ugly br / br /The film print used here is merely adequate. There are some scratches and some debris throughout this particular presentation. What we all need here is a Lowry Digital type of restoration. br / br /The final three minutes of the film on this DVD are in black and white for some unfathomable reason. br / br /This is a single-layer DVD disc with only 4.13 GB of material on it and is not recorded at the highest quality standard as with a typical 9 GB dual-layer disc. In other words, too much compression for my tastes. I don't know about any of you out there, but I want Raquel Welch and the Dino FX to be as clear and sharp as possible for a standard definition DVD.

3 out of 5 stars Harryhausen and the Fur Bikini   July 11, 2009
Mr. Andrew Carr (Kent, England)
I only bought this as my wife likes "B" movies with monsters, though from a male perspective one can also appreciate Miss Welch in her prime and her iconic costume. Being Harryhausen, the stop-frame dinosaurs are great fun whether chasing and eating, or swooping and capturing, the cave men and women. The projected lizards and turtles are less successful, but this a Sixties Hammer Horror film long before CGI. The minimal dialogue and the tonal and primitive score at least mean you have to follow it closely, though I still don't understand the sudden ending nor the switch to black and white. Nonetheless, great fun and a must for Harryhausen fans and for those of Raquel. br / br /
