Amazon.co.uk Review
Action anti-hero Jason Statham is competing with himself to make the most relentless, non-stop action flick imaginable. In ICrank/I, Statham stars as a hit man named Chev Chelios who's been poisoned by some Chinese toxin; the only way to stave it off is to keep his adrenalin flowing, which requires him to drive at top speeds through crowded traffic, start fights in bars, and run pell-mell down hospital corridors while wearing one of those humiliating smocks that tie in the back. In other words, ICrank/I is high-end pop-trash, filled with many preposterous/ingenious stunts and over-the-top performances (Dwight Yoakam, ISling Blade/I, is downright droll as a doctor offering Chev assistance), marred by an unpleasant attitude towards women (Amy Smart, IOutside Providence/I, will not look back on this as one of her signature roles). This is a movie for the audience who enjoyed ITransporter/I and ITransporter 2/I but wanted Statham's perpetual scowl to become a kind of theatrical mask, a perpetual signifier of intensity that begs--nay, demands--that everything around it rise to a mutual level of absurdity. Fans of Luc Besson (ILeon/The Professional/I, IDistrict 13/I) will find ICrank/I to be simpatico. I--Bret Fetzer/I

5 out of 5 stars THE BEST ACTION FILM EVER MADE!!!!!   April 3, 2007
Sandra Harris (United kingdom)

If you like action films, you'll love this. Its not for the faint of heart though. Constant swearing and violence, and some nudity(female nudity)are all featured in this film. br / It is very exciting from start to finish. The action is relentless, and never stops. Basically, a hitman has been poisened and he wants to get revenge on the bloke who did it to him before he dies. But if he doesn't keep his adreniline levels up, he dies. br / So if you like action with excellent acting and some nudity, buy this god-damn film!

5 out of 5 stars awesome ride!   January 1, 2007

As soon as this film starts, it is fast paced all the ay to the end! Not only is it fast paced, it has alot of action in it from start to finish too! One thing that I wasn't expecting was the comedy side of it, and this actually worked within the film! I missed this at the cinemas so I decided to get it on DVD and I'm glad because it is just so good and even my girlfriend loved it! Jason Statham is just brilliant throughout the film and Amy Smart is very good too despite not really being in the film that long, but this is worth buying!

All these other reviews seem to take this movie too seriously. It's full-on action from start to finish, and very funny... it's just got it's tongue firmly planted in cheek... hilarious and brilliant.

5 out of 5 stars Redressing the balance   April 5, 2007

I'm giving this flick 5 stars just to redress the balance, with not many more comments to add - reviewers have already summarised below. br / br /Okay, such a film might not be to your tastes (though an half-clued-up person should be able to work this out prior to renting/buying/watching), but, nonetheless, it is a decent piece of film making, with good acting and a plot that is refreshingly delivered. If you rate this film below 3 stars you surprise me. Despite the hazy inaccuracy of such a rating, 4 stars would be around what I would imagine this film's average rating to be given much wider viewing/rating... br / br /Enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars D.O.A.   October 13, 2006

Edmund O'Brien, in a 1950 film "Dead on Arrival" walks into a Police station and says, "I want to report a murder." Policeman asks: "Whose?" O'Brien replies: "My Own." br /Mark Neveldine and Mark Taylor's (writers and co-directors) take on this 50 year+ material is the caustic, crazy, dizzying (do not sit too close to the screen or you will hurl), profane, bloody, violent "Crank" starring the sterling Jason Statham (2 "Transporters" as well as "Cellular" and "The Italian Job" and though I think that Daniel Craig will make a terrific James Bond, Statham would have also made a great Bond). br /"Crank's" twist on this old chestnut of a story is that rogue Hitman Chev (short for Chevrolet, maybe?) Chelios (Statham) is injected with a new Millennium potion that is supposed to kill him in an hour unless he keeps moving as this stuff depletes his body of adrenaline: and move he does indeed from Beverly Hills to downtown L.A. robbing, killing, driving a car through the Glendale Galleria, causing havoc all along the way. br /It's all a lot of irreverent and even ironic fun and Statham and Amy Smart as his ditsy girlfriend Eve are more than up to the task of being sexy and attractive. "Crank" will never win any awards but it sure is a fun way to spend an hour or so and what more can you ask of a film now that the so-called blockbusters have come and thankfully gone away.
