Amazon.co.uk Review iMiss Potter/i walks that fine line between charming and cloying with pleasing sure-footedness. Apple-cheeked Renee Zellweger (iBridget Jones' Diary/i) once again slips into a British accent to play writer/illustrator Beatrix Potter, the creator of Peter Rabbit. Potter, born into wealth, fought the disapproval of her high society mother to do something as crass as publish a book... and to fall in love with her publisher, Norman Warne (Ewan McGregor, previously teamed with Zellweger in iDown With Love/i). Unfortunately, their love runs into something worse than upper-class stuffiness. Miss Potter skips through Potter's life a bit too briskly at times, but Zellweger's thankfully restrained performance, McGregor's infinite charm, and some beautiful shots of the English landscape keep the movie grounded and engaging. Also featuring a crackling supporting performance by Emily Watson (iBreaking the Waves/i) as Warne's sister Millie. i--Bret Fetzer/i

Fantatsic (Not what i was expecting) April 16, 2007 P. Lycett (UK) 43 out of 48 found this review helpful
When my girlfriend said lets go the cinema, I thought great time to catch Casino Royal or Rocky Balboa, but no she had Miss Potter in mind, to say I wasn't impressed with this idea would be a understatement, but as I sat there with my popcorn and large coke ready for a kip I was very very surprised with what I saw. A brilliant film from start to finish, definitely a chick flick but never the less I found myself enjoying this film and would have happily watched it again (had my popcorn been refreshed)!

br /Renee Zellweger is unrecognisable as an American as she makes this film quintessentially English. The scenery is fantastic and there is a certain magic about this film that you just can't help feeling. I highly recommend this to anyone!!!!!

Everything good. November 4, 2007 Ahantrobus (England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
If one watches a film and thoroughly enjoys it and then within days watches it again and enjoys it even more, then that must be proof positive of something. To read carping, niggling reviews about a film which is as good as this one, is at first, annoying. How can these negative views be possible? But then one comes back down to earth and remembers that all folk are different. We all see things in different ways. So I will just state my own reaction to this WONDERFUL film. I rate it more than worthy of five stars. I would like to go further and state that I regard it as one of the best films of recent years in every way. I believe all the performances are excellent but especially Renee and Ewen. The depth of emotion portrayed was extremely moving and to use an old expression- heart warming. Technically also, the film is very good. The music, the editing, and the photography, are all excellent. And as a friend said to me before I had any knowledge of the film "You must see this lovely film, It is delightful" and that says it all....
A lovely easy view film September 3, 2007 S. J. Ellis (Cornwall) 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
This film is one that you can sit down and watch and drift away in the life of Beatrix Potter. It is a bit sad and its not warts and all.
br /Its a pleasant change to view a family film.
br /Its on a par with Finding Netherland,it has that aaah factor.
br /Its does have a fairly happy ending too.
br /Enjoy it I'll be viewing it again for sure.
One to watch again November 17, 2007 Shandy (UK) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Good film to watch with the family. Good shots of the Lake District. Engaging portrayal of Beatrix Potter's life. A must for lovers of costume drama or anything historical. Interesting themes of conservationism, class, love and the role of women.
Excellent Movie - A must see December 6, 2007 TCJOHNSTON (GB) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Well, really really loved this film - having seen it am now very sorry I didnt make th effort to see it in the cinema - what a tale, and it's even more moving knowing it's based on real-life events. Acted very well by Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor - was suprised actually as couldn't have imagined this pair working as well as they did together. Excellent film for any age. I watched with my parents, but would happily have watched with my young nephews and could be sure they'd love it too. the little animations make this really entertaining, but it's a romantic little movie too. Will be buying it and happy to watch over and over - a must see!
