Amazon.co.uk Reviews Sweet baby Jesus, we thank you for blessing Will Ferrell and Adam McKay with the talent to create a NASCAR comedy as hilarious as iTalladega Nights/i. The so-called "Ballad of Ricky Bobby" is hardly flawless in fact it's not always firing on all cylinders but with comedy star Ferrell and director McKay still hot from the success of their previous comedy hit iAnchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy/i, most of this 108-minute spoof of oval-track racing is so knee-slappin' funny that you can't help but surrender to the stupidity.p Obviously, Ferrell's the shining star, and his portrayal of lead-footed pit-crew-member-turned-#1 NASCAR champion Ricky "I Wanna Go Fast" Bobby (how can you not love that name?) is spot-on perfect, righteously spoofing the entirety of NASCAR culture without insulting its oft-ridiculed roots in redneck bootlegging of a bygone era. You could even argue that iTalladega Nights/i is truer to NASCAR than Tom Cruise's iDays of Thunder/i, and it's certainly more entertaining, especially when you add John C. Reilly as Ricky's life-long pal, teammate, and eventual rival Cal Naughton, Jr. (together they're nicknamed "Shake 'n Bake"), and Sacha Baron Cohen (from iDa Ali G Show/i and iBorat/i) as gay French "Formula Un" driver-turned NASCAR rival Jean Girrard, to a stellar cast including Molly Shannon, Greg Germann, Amy Adams and Michael Clarke Duncan.p Sure, it's mostly a showcase for Ferrell's loud, over-the-top antics and nonsensical non sequiturs (like cameo appearances by Elvis Costello and Mos Def), but with Ferrell behind the wheel, iTalladega Nights/i rolls into victory lane with fuel to spare, and there's one final bit of comedy (with a tip of the hat to William Faulkner) for those who sit through the credits. i--Jeff Shannon/i

Not a Will Ferrell fan.... December 29, 2006 N. Watson (Halstead, Essex) 7 out of 10 found this review helpful
I must admit that I have not liked many and when I say many, I mean any, Will Ferrell films, but I watched this film on a flight recently and this has to be one of my films of the year. You could tell the other people on the flight who were also watching, this as they also had tears running down their faces.

Fantastic! November 18, 2007 Act (UK) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I can watch this film over and over and still laugh out loud! I can't believe that people have rated it so poorly, I can't understand why anyone who likes Will Ferral didn't enjoy this film, surely they weren't expecting a complex story line and adult humor. Personally the two foul mouthed kids who play Ferral's kids make the film, the bonus features show the auditions for the two of them, well worth a watch.
Great satire, goes beyond "silly" November 3, 2007 F. L. P. Souza (Amstelveen, The Netherlands) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great film, funny and provocative. I can see that some people may not find it funny, though... It pokes fun at the NASCAR culture, and I guess people who identify strongly with that culture simply don't get it. The film is sometimes blunt, sometimes subtle, and there may be a lot of people in the audience who are so much like the characters portrayed in the film, that they fail to see the humour in the whole thing. It helps if you already have a critical view of the NASCAR culture, or if you're capable of laughing at yourself, when the joke's on you. This is one of those comedies who passes as a "silly" film, but it actually is much smarter than that. It's a great social satire, which will be appreciated by people who enjoy reading between the lines. If you're looking for a simple slapstick comedy, this is not for you.
