Never seen it! July 6, 2009 Mr. A. J. Ralph (Torquay,England) I bought this for my mother in law who is a major Van Damme fine.I hear it is good though.
STYLISH, SLEEK, SEXY - Van Damme is still on a good streak January 15, 2007 C. Shepka (UK, Scotland, Bellshill) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
Ok. I'll be honest with you. Its not Van Damme's best. I don't think he will have another film as great as the dizzy heights of Timecop or Hard Target. Please people, remember this is a direct to video film produced with a budget of under fifteen million US dollars and has a team of lackluster producers behind it which need all the help they can get from the ever-commited stars.
br /Whilst I make these small points in the films defense it does have its problems. Van Damme seems to want to make films which are realistic, gritty and act well in them but the way he chooses to play the character is very strange. The character is virtually a walking zombie until he gets a gun in his hand or a tingle in his fists. But I'll give him my respect because you are a lot more suspicious of the character and Van Damme gives a sense of mystery to him. But then there is the action side of things as with any Van Damme film they come exciting but infrequent due to a running time of nearly two hours and relationships between teh characters more complicated than a Rubix cube. However, the action is swift and flowing and well directed and though there are not too many high kicks because Van Damme is playing a war-torn soldier and it would not suit his character, a few trademark kicks are thrown in to please the fans. The cool guns and the shoot first, ask questions later attitude of the characters remind me of the 80's action movies loaded with cheese and enough bullets to load every gun in the world once.
br /
br /Overall the film is very nice visually with stunning colours, good actors and the right amount of chemistry between them. It also has gritty fist fights, sparkling gun fights and an ever so slightly disappointing conclusion.
br /Well, that's me finished rambling and when I started out writing this review I promised myself that I wouldn't go on with my own views on the movie industry and inject pointless lines which I think are witty into it but - I have done it.
br /
br /I'm not going to tell you to buy this film. You can decide that for yourself. But if you do buy it - enjoy.
br /
br /Thanks for reading my review!

A GOOD EFFORT April 23, 2007 stuart (MIDDLESBROUGH, ENGLAND) 2 out of 6 found this review helpful
Like wake of the death and the replicant this movie shows a more mature JVC, and that is a wise move since the guy is well in his 40's after all.
br /
br /With this film JVC gets a decent budget and decent production values and a chance to put some more flesh in his character.. however that is about all that is really nice about this film. In many ways this film reminds me of the flicks of Steven Seagall doing buddy buddy with some rap star and like steven, jean claude also feels a bit misplaced in the setting of rap music and undressed women, this is actually felt by his acting in some scenes... I don't have the feeling he really believed or enjoyed himself all that much.
br /
br /There is very little hand to hand combat in this film and a very low amount of action, you can actually feel your ass telling you this flick really takes 110 minutes to tell its story.
br /
br /There isn't much to tell about the story that is interesting and the constant use of flashbacks is becoming irritating around halfway ( yeah we know the guy has problems from the war..yeah we get the hint) But all in all I found it a nice enough movie..little fast forward here and there but still a pleasant time waster. Lets be honest, I saw van damme for the very first time with bloodsport when all the action heroes were still around. Now in 2006 he is basically the only one left even trying to deliver some decent movies and that makes me very forgiving.
Entertaining frolic. Good role for Van Damme... August 9, 2007 Hooligween (Kernow, Great Britain) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Look, no one buys or rents this kind of film expecting high concept, high budget movie-making. If you're even looking at it then you surely aren't expecting Steven Spielberg!
br /
br /So it's unfair to criticise a straight-to-dvd B-movie for its obvious drawbacks. There's only so much you can do with a limited budget.
br /
br /The Hard Corps uses its limited resources to the full, as far as I can see. The role is a really good one for Van Damme; he's no spring chicken any more but this character and scenario gives him an opportunity to shine as the short-talking, kick-boxing action man.
br /
br /The script clunks along to start with and the set up for the main characters isn't original -- but it gets you into the plot pretty quick, and the gunfire starts flying within 15 minutes. And hey; you're watching this to be entertained, right?
br /
br /The action is based in urban American gangsta-rapper land, so you should expect a smattering of string bikinis and gold lame shorts (on the girls! Not Van Damme. Obviously), and plenty of mf-ing language. Plus heaps of semi-automatic gunfire and a stand up fight between Jean Claude and a boxer whose 15 years younger than him. Oh, and a pack of rottweilers eating a bad guy.
br /
br /What's not to like?
An OK straight to DVD release July 2, 2007 KM (England) 14 out of 18 found this review helpful
Jean Claude Van Damme, the "Muscles from Brussels" has always been a so-so actor, saved completely by some top quality martial arts action that he is so good at.
br /
br /In 'The Hard Corps', Van Damme plays an ex-soldier, who was in wars in Iraq and Afganistan, now employed as a bodyguard of a famous heavyweight boxing champion who needs protection from an ex-con/rapper and his gang who are after his blood for putting him inside.
br /
br /As far as stright-to-video films go, this isn't too bad. There's plenty of action throughout, unfortunately it mainly involves guns instead of martial arts which kind of makes having Van Damme as the main star a bit pointless as he isn't really known for his great acting.
br /
br /If you do purchase this DVD, don't expect anything along the lines of Bloodsport, Kickboxer or Universal Soldier as this is not a martial arts film, but is still a pretty entertaining action film.
