5 out of 5 stars A must for fans!   October 3, 2008

As a Good Charlotte fan I was going to buy this anyway no matter on the reviews I had read. I had been looking forward to it and was not disappointed. br /This is a behind the scenes look at their tour of Japan during the run of The Chronicles of Life and Death album. It is significantly different from other 'backstage' material you may have seen, you truly get to see another side of Good Charlotte. br /It is not packaged in an official merchandise style and therefore is able to be more open and honest, I was quite surprised by some of the stuff featured and learned alot of new things about one of my favourite bands!

4 out of 5 stars Good Charlotte's concept is a tour of Japan   September 22, 2008

I was really looking forward to this DVD after not hearing or seeing Good Charlotte around for at least a year. I was anticipating this film and it did not let me down. I have no idea why the DVD is titled as it is but I think it may be something implied about Japan's growing economy. br /Fast future generation is a great look at Good Charlotte's tour of Japan in 2005, which was the time of Chronicles of life and death. As this is the case, much of the feeling through the live performances is a little bit dark. Dean Butterworth, who is the band's current drummer is featured touring with the band and drumming in the concerts. This is at least a couple of years before he was officially named a member of the band. We get to watch the band on their adventures through the country. This includes meeting fashion people; Justin Davis, the crazy jewellery man who claims that GC are at the very top in rock n roll history, and they try clothes on and do a photo shoot for Batching ape, including meeting the creator. br / There are many interviews with the whole band throughout the film and this includes their views on Japan. The individual members have chapters dedicated to them with interesting conferencing on the certain subjects. Benji gives a moving piece on how his mum would freak out of she was there and how he wanted to bring her there. There are so many different things discussed in this DVD and you experience a deep insight behind the scenes. The members talk about everything from caffeine to Newlyweds, and from how they got into bands to how Japanese fans are 'the best fans in the world'. Joel also talks about the motivation to change their style from great punk to emo. There is even a look at a Japanese band performing. Also featured is a Japanese version of Predictable, which is one of the many songs played over the film to create a mood. br / br /As we watch the live performances we can see how the Japanese react to Good Charlotte and it is like nothing you have seen before. There is a lot of Japanese feeling and culture in the film. We can see the personality coming out of every member, and especially on the chapters dedicated to them. I never realised how much Joel moans! He whinges about one of the first shows so much after they've performed until the band leaves. He says `the audience were better than we were' and 'that was f****ng whack!'. Later on he slates Newlyweds, claiming that 'they are selling the most sacred bond in the world' and tells us it's `whack`! He proclaims that celebrities are a problem to him. He tells us about how they are egos and his confusion on why `people can't just say that's cool'. Benji discusses his view on the bullet train in an educated way. It is interesting to view how different the brothers' personalities are. Benji has that whole tough sentiment going on, but at the same time he is so deep. This is evidently shown when he communicates his heartfelt feelings on his relationship with his brother. It is amazing to just listen to his ideas and what is in his mind. He states to us that he can just tell when Joel's having a bad day, no matter if he is on the other side of the country. He explains that his love for his brother has taught him to love others just as much. The most serious and heart-warming piece is when he tells us that if Joel needed his heart he would `be like, where do I sign?', and that he wouldn't need to think twice about it. We can clearly see how much more mature Benji is. At moments like this you start to feel the love that is in the band. It is rare to have such a connection within a band and that's one thing you have to appreciate about Good Charlotte. There's something surrounding the band like no other, at least that`s the feeling I get. br / br /The film ends with Good Charlotte's last show where they thank the fans. Joel and Benji also give us some of their surprising ability to speak Japanese. Joel speaks only in concerts but Benji also uses a little in interviews, which is fascinating. There is no swearing in the film because it has all been edited out, so anyone can watch this. You could sit youngsters down and watch this and it would be fine for them. I think every Good Charlotte fan should own this DVD as it is a look at the band that you may not have experienced before. Even if you are not much of a Good Charlotte fan, you are very likely to enjoy this DVD.
