5 out of 5 stars Most underated film of 2006   January 24, 2007

There's been some very mixed reviews of this film but I think this is visually stunning (hence the well earned oscar nod for cinematography) contains De Palma's usual visual set-piece pyrotechnic's. Many people have said the story is confusing and the Dahlia murder seems secondary to the story interweaved around Mr Fire and Mr Ice but have they read the leviathan that's Ellroys book? This is a decent screenplay, with some great twists and if anything perhaps a little simplified from the book. In addition to this the film is well paced well acted with Hartnett, Johannson and Swank in particular acting in the classic style of 40/50's film noir. Definitely warrants a second viewing revaluation.

5 out of 5 stars BEST ACTRESS in the BEST FILM   May 31, 2007

Black Dahlia is a gripping film that made a another view of the world of Hoolywood. It is a movie that made thinking the best end the worth world. Black and white are a symbol in this film and Johannson and Swank are good as actress. You must buy the book by Ellroy and the soundtrack for appreciate well this bestwork.

5 out of 5 stars Who ever said they don't make em like they used to?   August 23, 2007

Brian DePalma proves himself once again to be a director par excellence with this intriguing adaptation of James Ellroy's fictionalized retelling of the most infamous unsolved murder in Californian history. br /The whole movie has a 1940s film noir feel to it, and credit must be given to the cinematographers who have convincingly rendered 1940s Hollywood for the modern eye. br /Josh Hartnett is every bit the part as a 1940s LAPD Detective, coupled with an intriguing performance by Aaron Eckhardt as his partner, and Scarlett Johansson simply sizzles in her part as Eckhardt's wife, looking every bit the part in 1940s Hollywood. One could be forgiven for thinking Jean Harlow had been reborn.

4 out of 5 stars Dark, confusing, brutal, showing abyss of the human soul and strangely fascinating   May 19, 2007

This is much more than a mere mystery. It is dark, often very confusing as one does not seem to understand what the hell is going on, it shows the abyss of the human soul, partly extremely brutal and - nearly against one's own better judgement - utterly fascinating. It might be not a nice story but it it is nicely filmed, artly in itself, great pictures which one like to keep as paintings. I enjoyed it very much, but I suppose it is not a movie for the mass market, inspite its impressive cast.
