| Customer Reviews: Vivah a unconditional love story June 12, 2008 Ms. N. SABIR (Manchester UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
"VIVAH" is marriage the story is about two individuals Poonam(Amrita Roa who is from a upper middle class family who live in the a small town of Madhupur. After the death of both her parents she is brought up by her Chacha( Uncle ) who loves her like a daughter. Her aunty however does not like her because she is fair and more pretty then her own daughter. Her uncles friend Bhagat, who also happens to be a matchmaker. Takes Poonaam's marrage proposal to a renowned and rich New Delhi businessman for his son Prem ( shahid Kapoor ) when his father goes to prem with the proposal he initially is taken back and feels that he is to young for marriage and need to focus on his career first, But being open minded and respectful to his father's wish, Prem agrees to meet Poonam , know her better and then take a decision. What happens next is the meeting arranged by both the families. What starts off as an awkward formal exchange of words , grow into a deeper meaningful conversation. Prem and Poonam discover their soul mate in each other. They are engaged-to be married in six months. Prem and Poonam go through the most magical and romantic period of their lives.Six months fly by and just when everything was set for Prem and Poonam to get married ....... a crisis puts the love of prem and Poonam through a trail by fire.
br /VIVAH is a heart warming tale of unconditional love which makes you laugh and cry its a must see and believe me you will want to watch it again and again ,
A template for how love and family could be January 3, 2009 Lyn (Melbourne Australia) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a simple plot; almost a documentary of how an arranged marriage is chosen and the steps thereafter to the marriage itself (with a hiccup and plot twist in the second half being the only diversion from this).
br /It is a bit of propaganda for arranged marriages and how they could be... if they were 2 stunning people with deeply loving natures and a natural connection made in heaven..and parents who consulted them fully... oh and wealthy in laws with very good hearts... and a loving devoted father and sister... and a beautiful country house in gorgeous scenery...! No wonder it doesn't always work out like this!
br /The realists will find this movie too syrupy as so many of the characters are 'nice' but giving it less than a 5 would almost be like criticizing newspapers if they filled up on good news.
br /This movie is really a reminder of how all of us could transact our loving interactions in a kindly and humane manner. It shows deep love developing and as it could be between pure-hearted people. Now that is something nice to hang out with for a change!
br /Shahid Kapoor is always a delight to watch and does a great job with this plot. I am now starting to look out for his movies. He is still young and has a lot of potential. He brings the requisite pure warm innocence and honesty - and good looks (he is a very beautiful young man).
br /Amrita Rao similarly plays the pure-hearted, kindly, coy yet quietly capable and intelligent, bride to be.
br /All other actors add strength to this group- from those playing fathers and in-laws, to the only character with a shadow over them: the bride's 'mother' (who naturally sees the error of her ways in the end).
br /There are a few nice dances and some pleasant music (one which was in my head after which is a good sign) and beautiful photography.
br /My DVD was a 'Collector's Edition' which I presume means a lot of people have found this one to treasure. Two age groups watched this at my house- late 20s and mid 50s and both age-groups found it good. Recommended for those with good hearts who are touched by loving human-beings and love itself.
