Best Tour Yet July 8, 2007 D. Reynolds (Hertfordshire) 26 out of 40 found this review helpful
I saw the stand-up in March at Brighton and got a fantastic seat with my family. The atmosphere was very good in the Centre and everyone was so anticipating seeing Ricky's 3rd tour! The support act was on which did drag a little bit but nonetheless was still funny!

br /Ricky enters as the King of Comedy with Queen's 'One Vision' playing which is funny already! Throughout the show he touches on some boundaries but limits them so he can make a hilarious joke out of it! People complain he's too offensive to those suffering in Africa and disabled people. If so, why does he give heaps of money to charity and open his first couple of gigs with proceeds going to charity? One of my favourite parts is his encore. He talks of an incident that occured when he saw X-Factor live and what happened during a commercial break with Chris Tarrant and Sharon Osbourne.

br /I won't spoil anymore for you but will say that I was laughing for pretty much the whole show! And thankfully the show was longer than Politics, we got out at around 10.30pm after starting at 9pm so that was good :) Great tour, best one yet I think! Pre-order now!

Ricky's at the top of his game September 30, 2007 Dr. George L. Sik (Epsom, Surrey) 18 out of 28 found this review helpful
I saw this show on its last night at the Hammersmith Odeon (as was) and the audience were falling off their seats with laughter. Ricky Gervais is a brave comedian and his targets may be uncomfortable at times to those who think there should be taboos in humour. Of course, for those of us who believe there are no Sacred Cows as long as the comedy is funny, he is pure gold.

br /This one being about Fame, does he name names? You bet he does! Unless they decide to leave material out for the DVD, Dawn French, Chris Tarrant and, above all, Sharon Osbourne are unlikely to be requesting this one in their Christmas stockings!

The Master At Work October 29, 2007 Cyderman (Cyber Space) 11 out of 18 found this review helpful
I saw this show on it's last night playing at Hammersmith. Well, you can't say he lacks self-esteem. Ricky Gervais's third stand-up tour sold out in nine minutes. And if anyone really doesn't know why they're in for something special with this DVD.
br /
br /"He's the creator of the most successful British comedy of all time," booms Gervais's mock-Stars In Their Eyes opening announcement. "Hollywood's hottest Brit . . . the Podfather . . . five million DVDs sold worldwide . . . and now he has the fastest-selling live tour in history! Tonight, Matthew, I'm going to be Ricky Gervais!" As Queen's One Vision blares out, the curtains part to reveal RICKY spelt out upstage in 10ft-high illuminated letters. On his head, a crown. To his left, a giant Emmy Award.
br /
br /Bombastic, ironic, yet factually correct, it's an opening that plays up to Gervais's self-basting persona. It sets the tone brilliantly for what's to come: Gervais's outsized musings on success, mocking and celebrating his status as the in-demand talent behind The Office and Extras.
br /
br /It's irony, double irony and more -- or is that less? One minute he's complaining that the press printed that his new house in Hampstead cost £2.5 million -- "It was £3.5 million. How am I going to sell it now?" -- the next he's a mere mortal describing the stains on his boxers.
br /
br /Strip away the play-acting and Gervais doesn't actually have much to say about fame. But the play-acting is the point, and it's brilliantly done: his mastery of a crowd is at times awesome.
br /
br /Amid his various swipes at whingers, opportunists and do-gooders, I particularly liked the routine about adverts urging men to get consent from potential sexual partners: "What kind of society has to remind people not to go raping?" Much of the material was risque to say the least.
br /
br /If you couldn't get to see the live show then buy this DVD. For me, it is the best of his stand up shows so far.

The best yet June 19, 2008 Matthew Wood (England) 6 out of 10 found this review helpful
I am a huge fan of Ricky Gervais and own all of his Stand Up DVDs, this one being easily the best. His stage persona, his presence and his material has just got better and better.
br /
br /Many reviewers have found this material offensive. However, what these people need to remember is that Ricky is a comedian, and not a politician. The jokes that he makes are not supposed to be taken seriously. Like many great comedians, he tries and makes light of heavy situations. He plays a lot with what you can and can't say, which will obviously offend some people. But if you are easily offended, I really don't know what you're doing watching Ricky Gervais.
br /
br /The claims that some of this material is racist is simply not true, and it is an insult to suggest it. Putting on an African accent to make a joke about something else entirely is in no way racist! It's no different to someone putting on a Scottish accent to illustrate a point.
br /
br /Other topics he includes are rape, cancer, ME and obesity, which again offend some, but he is showing his comic talent by being able to make these subjects lighter and funny, which he does very well. It's also what Ricky has done in his previous Stand-Up DVDs.
br /
br /For me, the material on this DVD is largely original, different and refreshing. If you are prepared not to take what he says as gospel and see it for what it is: a fantastic comedy piece, then you will enjoy this DVD.
