Despite Tony Scott's at times heavy handed approach, this remains Costner's most sensitive and emotional performance. This film has moments of real beauty, carried essentially in the performances. Stowe and Costner are intense together and the Mexican setting is a dream. powerful stirring stuff. The last five minutes has me in tears every time.

My partner highly recommended this film to me and although I half guessed the end, I thought it was an excellent film. br / br /A litle slow at first, but was soon transfixed - excellent performance from Quinn and Costner and an unusual storyline Impossible not to cry.

4 out of 5 stars A film about the Mafia and revenge but with a difference.   July 21, 2007

Despite the really poor review below I actually found this quite an entertaining film. Even though the story may sound a little on the predictable side; hero has affair with Mafia boss who enacts dreadful punishment on the pair, the character played by Costner is beaten up and left for dead and the character played by Stowe is imprisoned in a brothel, the two finally re-uniting to bring their revenge upon the Mafia boss played by Quinn, it appears that the tale has at least some moral to it. Look out for the hidden symbolisim in the film as well.

4 out of 5 stars Tony Scott at his best.....   July 15, 2007

I first saw revenge about 14 years ago now and still after watching it today i still give it the same review this is a powerful, violent and very sexual film. br / br /Directored by Tony Scott (Top Gun, Man On Fire, Days Of Thunder etc) and co-produced by Kevin Costner. I recomended this to any fan as this is one of the pairs best movies. br / br /After just watching the Unrated version (not yet avaliable in UK unless import ) i have to say i like that version better even though it is 30 minutes short of the original release it is more fast paced and with more scenes added it makes revenge a more obsessive and sexual movie. br / br /Don't be put off by negative reviews with an all star cast and superb director any fan of costner or scott will not be disapointed. br / br /

1 out of 5 stars Almost a great movie.   July 5, 2007

Handsomely shot (Tony 'Topgun' Scott) in a Mexico of golden dawns and tawny candlelight, Revenge is an unlikely thriller of macho passions focusing on the torrid sensuality of the Madaleine Stowe character. She is married to the rich and powerful local mobster Tibey (Quinn); and when Cochran (Costner) turns up for a holiday, things fall apart.....in more ways then one. br / br /Tibey finds out about the illicit affair, and in a scene of almost unwatchable viciousness, stops just short of killing them. br / br /I expected the movie to continue at this great pace, but just then at the half way point it lost all momentum and became tragic through a combination of poor script and a disastrous story line (How did Madaleine Stowe's character die in the convent at the end?). br / br /On a plus side Kevin Costner was actually quite good in this movie. He gives a fair performance here, playing the kind of character that suits him. Madeleine Stowe brings a surprising amount of sensuality to her character rather than looking like a doll with no thoughts - must be her big round eyes that give me that impressions in her other films - and she's got the Mexican accent pretty well. Anthony Quinn as the mafia lord is powerful, he never goes over-the-top, never needs to force anything, he is natural, we can feel his vulnerability but also his stronger side and charisma such a character would need. br / br /It all started off so well, and then it just bombed. Shame. Terrible waste of talent and terrible waste of a great movie (almost). br / br / "You're a crazy sonofabitch, Cochran, but we're with you" br /
