bizarre yet brilliant August 29, 2008 godzilla78 (northern ireland) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
wow! Fans of Delicatessen will enjoy this. Its a rather charming tale combining science and mystery. It's well worth the 5 stars as it's beautifully shot especially Perlman running through the tunnel about 10 mins into the film. To get the full effect of just how good this film is, you need to see it for yourself. This puts harry potter to shame with it's originality, charm and beauty. A film hollywood wishes it could make.

This is a film you don't want to see, but own. you'll want to watch it again every few years, like Gone With the Wind!
Vaudevillian Brilliance February 8, 2009 A S Wilcox 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
John Claude Jenet is a master of telling stories full of dark and macabre characters infused with wit, soul and compassion - and City of Lost Children is no exception. With Angelo Badalamenti composing the score, Jean Paul Gaultier doing designing the costumes and Ron Perlman as the protagonist, this film is a wonderous cacophony of imagination, story and creative flair.
Fantastic Fantasy October 4, 2009 P. Mcneill (France) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have seen this film at least three times, and love it. It's a beautifully produced gothic fantasy with beautiful imagery, mystery and genuine human compassion. A must for fantasy-lovers.
Masterpiece October 24, 2009 Robert Groom (UK) As has been said by other reviewers - if you loved Delicatessen and Amelie, you will adore this movie. At first sight, you may assume that it's a film for kids, but you would be mistaken. It is aimed firmly at mature audiences (it has a UK 15 rating). Formerly only the English dubbed version of this movie has been made available - which is an incredible shame - as the English voice acting, particularly by the children, is sub-par, distracting and ultimately irritating. This original French language variant with subtitles is however an immersive treat, and will take you on a voyage of adventure of sublime imagination, containing very few filmic cliches. Acting is of the highest order, the sets and lighting are moody and evocative, and the storyline is original and extremely entertaining. I cannot recommend this film enough. Buy it now.
