4 out of 5 stars An excellent ghost story   November 3, 2008

A couple Allen and Julie Pyke move to the country after their child is brutally murdered. In an attempt to get Julie to cope with her grief, Allen suggests that she starts to take photographs again(she is a photographer by profession). She is hesitant at first, but then walks to a long abandoned prison, and takes some pictures. What she sees on these pictures after they are developed, both shocks her and causes an obsession to grow in her. Concerned about his wifes sanity, Allen starts to make enquiries about the history of the house they are living in. What he discovers shocks him to the core. br /If you like to be scared(and I suggest that you may well do looking up a film called 'Dark Remains'), then look no further, as this film certainly delivers on the fear factor. There are several serious jolts, and a thoroughly creepy atmosphere is maintained throughout. The ending does disappoint slightly, but all in all its an excellent low budget horror film. 4 out of 5

3 out of 5 stars Budget shocks   March 16, 2009

Can't understand the negative reviews for this film. For £3 you get a not too bad horror with mediocre acting but a couple of really good scares. It certainly beats some of the so-so Hollywood remakes of Japanese Horror classics and is entertaining enough even if the ending feels slightly rushed. br /Certainly nowhere near a one star movie in my opinion - for that see Boxing Helena!!

2 out of 5 stars Very routine horror that has its' moments   July 5, 2007

To escape from the nightmare memories of finding their daughter Emma murdered in her bed Julie (Cheri Christian) and Allen (Greg Thompson) flee to the solitude of the mountains and rent a secluded cabin close to a disused prison. br / br /As soon as the traumatised couple settle in Julie starts photographing apparitions in the house and prison that only she can see when she prints the negatives, and the weird unnerving Jim (Scott Hodges) soon makes his presence felt. br / br /This very routine horror achieved modest success winning a couple of specialist Horror awards, probably because Laurence Avenet-Bradley was director, writer, cinematographer, editor and he somehow managed to end up with a passably creepy film. br / br /There are many better horror films out there, if you are curious only rent. br /

2 out of 5 stars I wish i had read Mr Carruthers and Ms White first!   November 8, 2009
Milliecat (UK)
Oh how I wish I had read the reviews of Mr Carruthers and Ms White prior to spending any money on this one. br /I was puzzled about what sort of relationship the couple were in, as the husband seemed to feel it appropriate to take a big bag of chains to lock up the 'abandoned prison' to prevent his wife from wandering around in there at night- although she didn't seem to mind too much. In the end his ploy wasn't too successful! I ended up actually laughing out loud at points. br /Don't waste your hard earned dosh!
