5 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece from Loren, Mastroianni and De Sica   January 16, 2008

This wonderful movie is one of the last where Sophia Loren, Marcello Mastroianni and Vittorio De Sica worked together. Sophia and Marcello again showed that they are both professionals at their acting career. The story really takes your breath away and you watch it with real interest of what will happen at the end. The Winner of Moscow Movie Festival, Berlin Movie Festival and Italian Movie Festival - "Sunflowers" is one of the best movie in the world to watch and it is a real treasure for Sophia's fans.

4 out of 5 stars SUNFLOWER---SOPHIA LOREN'S--LAST FILM OF THE 1960's   October 8, 2009
Mr. W. J. Wright
SUNFLOWER[I GIRASOLI],1969 colour,in cinemas 1970,was SOPHIA LOREN'S last film she made during the 1960s.Her co-star was MARCELLO MASTROIANNI and it was Directed by VITTORIO DE SICA[who was also an actor].All three legendary Italians who worked greatly together on many of Sophia's Italian made movies. br /SUNFLOWER is an Italian made movie but filmed in Russia.Other reviewers have gone into this films story.I just want to add the following.. br /What i really want to say was although this film has a great story, i also feel however that it is also a rather bland and dull film.SOPHIA LOREN's films really from this movie onwards[but not all] i feel were mainly just that-this includes[but not only]Sophia's films such as-THE PRIESTS'S WIFE[1970],LADY LIBERTY[1971],WHITE SISTER[1972],to name but three of her early 1970s films. These three films are also known respectively by the Italian film names of-LA MOGLIE DEL PRETE, LA MORTADELLA,and, BIANCO,ROSSO e...I consider these mainly bland and dull Italian films-but Sophia Loren still looked stunningly beautiful in them. br /For me Sophia's best films were during the 1950s/1960s[this includes those Italian movies she made in the early to mid 1950s-before her reaching Hollywood and world fame].Some[but by no means all]of her films that she has made over the past forty years have matched up to her 1950s/1960s era. br /All actors/actresses make great, good, bad, and in some cases awful movies-this includes[but not only]screen legends such as-GINA LOLLOBRIGIDA-ELIZABETH TAYLOR[including some of those she made with-RICHARD BURTON]as well as by-JOHN WAYNE-FRANK SINATRA-and-ELVIS PRESLEY-who has received by far the most slated bad press [unfairly]about many of his movies-even decades after Elvis's last[acting]film in 1969. br /Regards,Bill. br / br /

1 out of 5 stars An awful edition for a wonderful movie   July 29, 2008

Copied from an ordinary VHS tape, dubbed in english, original soundtrack not avaliable, extremely poor image quality in brief don't buy this edition and don't waste your money. I'm sure one day this exceptionnal movie will be avaliable in a quality that it deserves.

The quality of this film was extremely bad. It appeared to be a very poor amateur copy and the image was barely watchable. I buy frequently from Amazon and this is the first time I have had to give a negative comment as I have never had a problem before. I don't wish to claim back my money but would be happy to post the DVD to you if you wish to see what I mean.

1 out of 5 stars AWFUL DVD quality!!!   July 7, 2009

Do not rent/buy this title! The copy is in an appalling condition. There is a warning at the beginning of the DVD that says: 'because of the fragile material, the DVD quality might not be as high as usual'. You bet it isn't! It looks like somebody filmed an old VHS tape being played on a TV. Both the image and the sound are truly terrible and i could not watch more than 10 minutes of it, therefore the Rate of 1 reflects the viewing experience rather than the movie. What a rip off!!! br /
