Product Description Owen Wilson, Paul NewmanDirectors: John Lasseter
Amazon.co.uk There's an extra coat of hot wax on Pixar's vibrant, NASCAR-influenced comedy about a world populated entirely by cars. Lightning McQueen (voiced by Owen Wilson) is the slick rookie taking the Piston Cup series by storm when the last race of the season (the film's high-octane opening) ends in a three-way tie. On the way to the tie-breaker race in California, Lightning loses his way off Route 66 in the Southwest desert and is taught to stop and smell the roses by the forgotten citizens of Radiator Springs. It's odd to have such a slim story from the whizzes of Pixar, and the film pales a bit from their other films (though can that be a fair comparison?).p pNonetheless, iCars/i is another gleaming ride with Pixar founder John Lasseter, who is directing for the first time since iToy Story 2/i. There's the usual spectrum of excellent characters teamed with appropriate voice talent, loads of smooth humor for kids and parents alike, knockout visuals, and a colorful array of sidekicks, including a scene-stealing baby blue forklift named Guido. Lightning's plight is changed with the help of former big-city lawyer Sally Carrera (Pixar veteran Bonnie Hunt), the town's patriarch Doc Hudson (Paul Newman) and kooky tow truck Mater (Larry the Cable Guy). iThe Incredibles/i was the first Pixar film to break the 100-minute barrier, but had enough story not to suffer; iCars/i, at 116 minutes (including some must-see end credit footage), is not as fortunate, plus it never pierces the heart. --iDoug Thomas/ip

Lovely Blu-ray March 2, 2009 father2 (England Europe) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Cars is obviously a labour of love for John Lasseter and the rest of Pixar's team. They have created a world where virtually everything is motor vehicle related. All the characters are cars and the landscape is fashioned on vehicle parts.

br /I first purchased the DVD of this film and that was impressive, but this Blu-ray transfer is stunning. Sharpe, colourful and definitely reference quality. We played this on our Sony 350 and 40W4000. Cars really shows off what HD can accomplish impressively.
Amazing quality! November 4, 2008 Trying to look busy at work 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Was totally stunned by the quality of the picture running at 1080p! Only the second bluey I've thought better than upscaled DVD. Good to see the disk space used for the main feature and a few little high quality extras - not the usual rubbish that you honestly never bother watching.
Looks wonderful! March 17, 2008 P. White (Cambridge, United Kingdom) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Cars looks amazing in HD. From the individual (car) spectators in the stadium long shots (unseen on DVD) to the sparkling pearlescent paint of the (occasional) cars to the fabulous colour palette throughout it's all great. The plot is fun and yes it's predictable and corny but if you're 10 you'll barely have seen it before. This is still a work that adults can appreciate though, a lot of the humour is very sophisticated. The Blu-Ray transfer is from a digital master so is 100% clean and perfect. Note that the UK release has the somewhat lacking Jeremy Clarkson performance as 'Lightning McQueen's' agent. The USA release has a better performance from an American actor and that's the one that I have because the USA Blu-Ray release is not region coded.
Fires on all cylinders June 11, 2008 Le Wrat (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Probably the best image quality I have seen on blu-ray, hold on, make that on anything!
br /The sound is clean, dynamic and well controlled.
br /The storyline is great too, plenty of humour with reflections on the real world.
br /A great film, especially well presented on blu-ray.
br /Maybe I could take away 1/2 a star for limited extras, but as I think the film is worth 6 stars by itself that is not an issue!
br /Most def one of the few blu-rays I will actually buy rather than just rent
Excellent Transfer! September 23, 2008 N. Islam (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
