5 out of 5 stars Superb transfer for a 30 year old film!   October 30, 2008

Not sure what the reviewer below me was watching or why they bought the film if they thought it was overlong and ponderous? Hu? But this is an excellent transfer. 4/5 for picture and 4/5 for sound! I think it's time they checked their equipment! The image is sharp and prestine with no white speckles that hamper the version that's shown on telly. Now that looks bad! Every bit of it's 30 years this however looks amazing! There's no ghosting or softness and hardly any grain. Superman has had time and effort put into this restoration with good extras. If your a fan it's a must have! The sequel looks just as good too. See HDDigest for the Blu-ray review - they rate this disc!

5 out of 5 stars Classic film, looking excellent   January 3, 2008

The picture and sound quality on this blu-ray edition of "Superman the Movie" are exceptional, providing you have set up your system properly of course. Film grain will be apparent but that's because this is a 30 year old FILM, not a digitally generated CGI package. Lots of extras are include, all in all a *very* good blu-ray disc.

4 out of 5 stars What you see is what the Director ordered.   September 23, 2009

Superman - The Movie [Blu-ray] [1978] br / br /I have only previously viewed Superman from TV transmissions and was somewhat surprised with the technical quality of this Blu ray disc. br / br /Particularly as the cinematographer Geoffrey Unsworth won several prestigious awards for this film, yet I was viewing a workmanlike transfer to Blu Ray (markedly inferior to the Blu ray of "Quo Vadis" filmed twenty years earlier) with a continuous softness in the definition. br / br /I am somewhat fanatical about image quality and every other Blu ray I have viewed have always met all my standards including sharpness. br / br /However some research on the internet revealed the film was shot using diffusing filters to deliberately achieve this effect and therefore WHAT WE SEE IS WHAT THE DIRECTOR INTENDED, CANNOT COMPLAIN ABOUT THAT. br / br /Unfortunately I am unable to compare it to the DVD version, however for a first purchase this is definitely the way to go. br /

Blu-ray? Hi-definition? This looks like moderate grade vhs. Soft, blurry, ghosting of image and that's just for starters.... the movie itself was always ponderous, overlong and lacking in an real excitement. Save your money and get Spiderman on blu-ray or Transformers.
