Sheer class April 15, 2008 Mr. C. J. Waldron 19 out of 22 found this review helpful
What a shame they only did 2 series. Gambon is absolutely wonderful as the the enigmatic Maigret. And the supporting cast are fabulous. But Gambon brings Maigret to life in a magnificent performance of subtlety and wit. Great stories brought to life by a wonderful cast.

Maigret is an outstanding classic detective series with very original crimes to be solved. I strongly recommend it to those who love crime stories. Once you start the series you cannot stop!!!
More Please! March 11, 2009 Grumpy Cat (London) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Having fallen asleep before the end of each programme (well it was shown at about 2.30 a.m. on ITV3), I was desparate to see the endings and the programmes I had missed. I loved the two series and wish that they had made more. Michael Gambon is fantastic. Would recommend this to anyone.

br /"Starring Michael Gambon as the eponymous Belgian detective"!
br /
br /Someone at Amazon was a little careless with the "cut n' paste" were they not? Maigret is FRENCH!

br /Other than that Gambon is of course superb and if you like the genre you will love this series. I did even though I am/was a big fan of "le maitre" Rupert Davies.
magic maigret May 11, 2009 H. Cartwright (newcastle-under-lyme, staffs United Kingdom) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was too young to remember the previous maigret -rupert davies - but I love the books, so was glad when these remakes were put on tv.
br /Michael Gambon is brilliant -as is the supporting cast- and the episodes have a timeless quality to them. The writing is first class and the characterisation fairly faithful to the books. Nothing is overblown or out of place and you never feel that scenes have been written to give an actor the chance 'to shine'! Good old fashioned -in the best possible sense - tv writing and acting!!
