Amazon.co.uk Review
Even as we arrive at season ten, these ISimpsons/I DVD boxsets remain irresistible. Put together comprehensively and with real care, this latest release upholds the standard for terrific (and many) DVD extras to back up and complement the episodes themselves. P Season ten of IThe Simpsons/I features 23 episodes, spread across four discs, and there are some belters contained within. "Lard Of The Dance", for instance, finds Homer and Bart trying to steal and sell grease, against the backdrop of Lisa's school dance. "Lisa Gets An `A'" meanwhile sees the Simpsons' eldest daughter getting addicted to videogames, while "Mayored To The Mob" throws in Mark Hamill and a science fiction convention. Quite brilliant stuff. P The lazy argument though is that by season ten, IThe Simpsons/I was on the slide, but there's plenty of compelling evidence in this boxset to counter that. Sure, not every episode's a classic, but there are a lot of laughs and much entertainment to be gleamed here. P Furthermore, when you factor in the commentaries, deleted scenes, sketch gallery and look at the upcoming film, once again the stops have been pulled off for a distinguishable TV collection. Again, IThe Simpsons/I--in more than one sense--sets the standard that the others look up to. --IJon Foster/I

5 out of 5 stars feeling stupid? i know i am!   August 29, 2007

at present i don't know quite what to make of the simpsons. given the paucity of newer eps and the increasingly erratic nature of the guest 'stars' (the inclusion of a certain socialite/ heiress/ useless human being an all time low) one could be forgiven for thinking the simpsons is dead. yet a decent enough movie would suggest all is not yet lost, even if they did draft some of the older writers back for it. as another reviewer has pointed out this is probably the last of the really good series so we might as well enjoy it while it lasts. br /but this is the point where the cracks begin to show. a change from the occasional joke falling flat to entire subplots (senor ding dong?) and even whole episodes ('30 minutes over tokyo'), seemed somehow that the nature of the humour changed. and yes, no-one needs to hear 'i will always love you' again. in any context. ever. br /said that the treehouse of horrors episode is very strong with jerry springer allowing himself to be send up, homer finally getting the haircut he wanted and itchy and scratchy attempting to get their own back on those people who watch to get a thrill on the violence ('hey lise, we're in a cartoon'. 'how humiliating'). elsewhere the hippie ideal appears to be well and truly dead as homer does his best to ruin said hippies livelihood, homer wimps out on the 'opportunity' to become an organ donor and becomes an inventor ('you've got it set on "whore"'). there are the usual disturbing. brilliant moments; willie gets shown to be not the man you think he is (and finds a use for vim and brillo padsmost of use have never considered before), the catholic church makes a few...'changes'...and watch superintendant's reaction when ralph mispronounces his name. br /4.5 stars, round up. sadly probably the last time too

Ya know with every Simpsons Box that comes out someone inevitably dubs it the "last great season" and proclaims everything since has gone downhill. Sure the recent dependency on "celebrity" appearances is a little worriesome, but I get these old moaners are a little like the comic book guy! br / br /Three things to remember br / br /1) It's a cartoon br /2) It's not life or death br /3) It's funny br / br /So if you wanna laugh buy it, if you want to moan about it...don't!
