Amazon.co.uk Review Offering a real improvement on its predecessor and successfully introducing one of the world of comics' most popular characters in the process, IFantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer/I easily warrants some attention on DVD to go with its impressive box office take. P Picking up where the surprisingly tepid original left off, IFantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer/I finds the Marvel Comics Universe's first family dealing with the celebrity that their powers have brought them, to the point where even a simple wedding can't take place without interruption. P The film then takes a little while to re-establish its characters and re-introduce some of the issues that underpin them. But it's not too long before the Silver Surfer arrives, and things really get into gear. For make no mistake: it's the Surfer who ignites the film and provides some of the very best moments of IFantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer/I. Backed up by some superb special effects work, he's a far more interesting draw that the returning Julian McMahon as Dr Doom. P While there are, inevitably, various problems that each of the characters in IFantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer/I must face, the film never opts to go knee-deep into them. Instead, it chooses a light, breezy tone, that's suited well to family viewing yet not without some genuine blockbuster moments. P It's no classic, but IFantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer/I is most certainly fun. And it's equally certain that this isn't the last we've seen of this quintet of heroes... --IJon Foster/I

Fantastic! October 21, 2007 Faye (UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I saw this film today and it was fantastic. If you liked the first one you'll love this one. In case anyone noticed the first film contained a lot of talking but this one was just action and of coarse some talking! The action scenes are great. They don't last too long but they were fun to watch. There were quite a few battles in this film and the last one was probably the longest. The final battle was incredible. Brilliant special effects and CGI. The story - Reed and Sue are due to get married but during their wedding the mysterious Silver Surfer turns up (at just the wrong moment) and wrecks their wedding and the Fantastic 4 have yet another villain to beat.

br /This film may be a bit more violent and they swear a bit more so I don't recommend it for young children. It has been rated PG for a reason. The Silver Surfer was totally awesome and he wasn't all CGI so that was pretty cool. In most superhero films you just want the bad guy to lose but in this case Silver Sufer may actually become the good guy and you end up liking him! He had an awesome voice too. A character from the first film also returns and has gone mad with power! Nope. This is one superhero film you don't want to miss. There wasn't many cheesy lines and the acting once again was very good. Some scenes just take your breath away. I definitely recommend this film. 10/10.
AWESOME January 12, 2009 C. Wyler I love this movie, its not a deep film, its not meant to be, its fun! And lets face it, the only reason anyone watches this is for Johnny Storm's half-naked torso. And surely thats worth 5 stars?
Another great twist on superheroism June 26, 2009 Uenna (London) Up on till last weekend I had never really been aware of this movie, until I caught the tail end of a movie that my daughter was watching on her laptop, piqued and intrigued I got this DVD to see the movie.

br /I enjoyed watching this movie - `Rise of the Silver Surfer'. For the simple fact, that it challenges the mind, and forces you to ask some pertinent questions about our planet. In this movie an alien force is wreaking havoc on the earth and the evil protagonist Victor Van Doom who was temporarily silenced at the end of the first movie has been awakened by the power/life force of the silver surfer's board. The silver surfer in trying to protect his own world has to serve the destroyer of the universes by drawing him away from his own world; an act he feels leaves him with no choice, but to serve the destroyer.
br /
br /What I liked most about this movie was not the fact that the fantastic four have to use their powers to save the universe or the romance and wedding of the lead characters, Dr. Richard Reed and Susan Storm; but simple things like learning to work as a team, that in team work there is no `I' a valuable lesson that they all learned in the end especially Johnny, the human torch. Above all I loved Sue's words to the silver Surfer - `you always have a choice', a concept the surfer acknowledged in the end and used to the fullest effect in fighting the destroyer and saving the planet earth. The big life lesson here is the fact that `we always have a choice' and this begs the question what are we human beings doing to save our planet? Are we serving the destructive forces with our choices or are we serving the forces of good? Since we always have a choice we should constantly think of how our choices and therefore actions affect our fellow human beings and our planet. I told you this movie forced me to reflect and that is what I loved most about it.

br /As entertainment value, drama and CGI go, it is up there with the best of them. So whether you like a movie with depth or action-packed or science fiction or romantic- comedy you got it all in one. The DVD has great special features and it is subtitled in English.

A Little More Fantastic October 5, 2007 Mark Baker (Santa Clarita, CA United States) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
After three previous attempts, Dr. Reed Richards (Ioan Gruffudd) and Sue Storm (Jessica Alba) are finally getting married. Reed promises that nothing will get in the way this time.
br /
br /But that's before the weird anomalies start happening. A bay in Japan freezes over. It starts snowing in Egypt. And Los Angeles loses power.
br /
br /This latest crisis just confirms Sue's fears that the two superheroes will never be able to raise kids and live a normal life. She and Reed begin to think about leaving the Fantastic Four, which doesn't sit well with the other members, Ben Grimm (Michael Chiklis) and Johnny Storm (Chris Evans).
br /
br /Meanwhile, the threat just keeps growing. This creature is creating giant holes in the ground. And he has awakened Dr. Von Doom (Julian McMahon). Can the Fantastic Four work together to save the day?
br /
br /When you go to see a super hero film, you expect action and special effects. This movie has both in spades. It's like everything in the first movie was just a set up to get to a real story. Which is a good thing since I felt the first film was rather weak. And while there is only one real standout action sequence, there are plenty of smaller sequences that were lots of fun. As you'd expect, the special effects are believable. And there are lots of funny bits as well, especially when Johnny is around. And Stan Lee's standard cameo? Absolutely hilarious.
br /
br /So, what didn't I enjoy? The story was rather predictable, and, despite character driven sub-plots, the characters are rather flat. The actors do what they can, but they don't have much to work with.
br /
br /Finally, the editing seemed choppy, mainly at the scene breaks. It was like bits and pieces were cut out. It was minor, but it did throw me out of the film a couple times.
br /
br /This isn't great cinema, but it is an enjoyable way to pass a couple hours. If you love these characters, you should be happy. And if you thought the first one was weak, give this one a chance. I'm certainly glad I did.
Better than the first but still not fantastic October 11, 2007 T. R. Alexander (East Anglia, UK) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
The original Fantastic 4 film, although fun, never lived up to the expectations of the fans and ended up being a rather mediocre film. This sequel is far better but still suffers from being only half as good as it could have been.
br /
br /In this film the wedding of Sue Storm and Reed Richards is interrupted by the extraterrestrial Silver Surfer who heralds the destruction of the whole world. The Silver Surfer/Galactus storyline is one of the most well known and best loved story arcs in the Fantastic 4 mythos and it was inevitable that many of the changes made for this film weren't going to go down well with hardcore fans. As for the film itself, the CGI is simply stunning, the Silver Surfer himself is brilliantly realized and Laurence Fishburne was a perfect choice for his voice. The action in the film is good, globe trotting from America to London to China giving a good impression of a global problem.
br /
br /There are many problems with this film, Ioan Gruffudd is still unconvincing as Mr Fantastic, Jessica Alba is criminally underused as Sue Storm, much of the script is poor and the less said about the Mr Fantastic's `dancing' the better. The film is also too short for my liking but I doubt the plot could have lasted over a longer film. Overall, although still not the greatest film in the world, Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer is fun to watch and is a good addition to the growing stable of comic books adapted for the big screen.
