Top Ten of All Time March 2, 2008 Film Fan (London) 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
This has to be one of the best coming of ages of films in its genre. I've read reviews that compare this to American Pie but please do not let this put you of.
br /
br /This is an intelligent, well written and brilliantly acted film. Its stars the wonderful Maribel Verdu as its central female character, who is charmastic and a joy to watch.
br /
br /The story centers losely on two breakthrough performaces by its two male leads (Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal) and their quest to find the ultimate beach. Centering on character interactions, humans emotions and the power of absolute honesty, this is truly a wonderful film.
Sexy, Funny Intelligent September 13, 2008 willow (The Universe) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Y Tu Mama Tambien is without doubt one of my favourite films, at the very least my favourite foreign film.
br /The movie is based around two teenage Mexicans (Diego Luna as Tenoch Gael Garcia Bernal as Julio.) The story is put into motion when the boys make up a beach the attractive wife of Tenoch's cousin, Luisa, when Luisa's husband has an affair she opts to travel to the beach with the two boys.
br /Throughout the film there is a narrative that gives depth insight into the lives of these three beings that could not be achieved purely through their acting (even though they are all amazing.)
br /Julio Tenoch are normal horny middle class teenagers with penchants for soft drugs sex.
br /The most touching aspect of the movie is the relationship between the two leads, the viwer watches them at their peak of friendship at breaking point eventually when they go their seperate ways to never speak again.
br /The movie is simple but so effective although at the end there is a shock (not major though.)
br /I'd advise anyone to see this film, there is a great deal of nudity explicit sex scenes but because it is such an itelligent movie the fact that the nudity is used to be sexy as opposed to highlight vulnerablility doesn't take from the film, it also manages to be funny. I personally think funny, sexy intelligent is a great combination, the kind of combination I'd like my future husband to be!
Great Film September 22, 2008 David Gordon (London, UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a great film. I'm kind of new to foreign language film but really enjoyed this. I think every teenager needs to watch this.
Poetic! March 8, 2009 Luke Brown (UK) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
loved this film, i think its sad the sexual content in films like these is usually put in the for front in england, the truth is people are missing out a truly amazing movie experience. the film follows three characters as they search for a imaginary beach on the way they all grow and learn things about themselves that ultimately leads to a bitter sweet conclusion. the setting, dialogue and story are great and i think most people can relate in someway. definitely worth a watch!
And Your Mother Too May 24, 2008 thom (UK) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
A very good mexican teen road movie whereby two best friends get the oppertunity to take an older married woman with them to 'heaven's mouth'.
br /The most ingenious touch is the anonymous 3rd person narrative, whose entrance is continually signalled by the films loss of sound.
br /The theme of sex is to the fore from the word go and perhaps becomes a little too much.
br /However neither this, nor the rather sudden twist at the end of the film can prevent it from succeeding splendidly!
