Amazon.co.uk Review Offering a real improvement on its predecessor and successfully introducing one of the world of comics' most popular characters in the process, IFantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer/I easily warrants some attention on DVD to go with its impressive box office take. P Picking up where the surprisingly tepid original left off, IFantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer/I finds the Marvel Comics Universe's first family dealing with the celebrity that their powers have brought them, to the point where even a simple wedding can't take place without interruption. P The film then takes a little while to re-establish its characters and re-introduce some of the issues that underpin them. But it's not too long before the Silver Surfer arrives, and things really get into gear. For make no mistake: it's the Surfer who ignites the film and provides some of the very best moments of IFantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer/I. Backed up by some superb special effects work, he's a far more interesting draw that the returning Julian McMahon as Dr Doom. P While there are, inevitably, various problems that each of the characters in IFantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer/I must face, the film never opts to go knee-deep into them. Instead, it chooses a light, breezy tone, that's suited well to family viewing yet not without some genuine blockbuster moments. P It's no classic, but IFantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer/I is most certainly fun. And it's equally certain that this isn't the last we've seen of this quintet of heroes... --IJon Foster/I

For this complete package, a well deserved 5 stars October 12, 2007 I. R. Kerr (Lancashire) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I had high hopes for this movie and in the main they have been fulfilled.
br /The Surfer is one of Marvel's great icons and no doubt some will be disappointed by this movie due to their own high expectations.
br /The single disc would have got 4 stars but this two disc version is well deserving of 5 stars for the package as a whole.
br /The story worked for me, a modern version of FF 48-50 with Doctor Doom returning to steal the Surfer's board and hence his powers then taking on the FF, unaware that Galactus is getting closer to the Earth. Wisely it was decided the old comic version of Galactus would not work here and he has had a full make-over, although fans do get a good view of the classic headpiece as its shadow reflects against a planet. The devourer himself is only hinted at. Another nice tribute is the appearance of Stan Lee himself in his cameo role as he tries to attend the wedding of Sue and Reed. In the original comic (FF King Size 3) he and the Surfer's creator Jack Kirby are shown trying to enter the wedding unsuccessfully.
br /Yet again the acting highlights are Michael Chiklis and Chris Evans as the duelling team-mates who do seem to get a kick out of their characters.
br /Where this package wins for me is the second disc, especially the 39 minute documentary on the phenomenon of the Surfer with contributions from Marvel greats Stan Lee, Jim Starlin, Steve Engelhart and many others that cover the many years that I missed and am now catching up on. There's also the "Making Of.." documentary, which although has now become an obligatory extra still comes up with some interesting details. The hint that Sue is pregnant for one, will Agatha Harkness be around for the next movie if Franklin makes an appearance?
br /For the next movie, it has to be the Sub-Mariner or, at the very least, please bring on the Skrulls or Annihilus.

This review is based on the 1 disc version but assumes the movie is the same on 1 and 2 discs.

br /Not a long movie, although there is action from the off, rarely letting up. Special effects are well up to scratch, creating the Fantastic 4 world. There is the usual moral suggestion, which is not overly done but it is probably very valid. I enjoyed this movie and for anyone who like super hero stories with a good dose of sci-fi will find this worthy of a viewing.

The Rise Of The Silver Surfer didn't disappoint. The FF story line follows the early 60s comic books to some extent and should keep hardened Marvelites satisfied, especially with Dr. Doom stealing the Surfer's power. The Torch borrowing all the FF powers bared a resemblance to the Super Skrull, which helped to keep the original complicated comic plot (by big screen standards) uncomplicated.

br /It was a shame Galactus (a big dude) didn't make an appearance, or a least give a glimpse of his ship rather than a cloud of smoke. This guy is a devour of planets who gave Norin Radd cosmic powers to search the cosmos. When the Surfer decided to protect the Earth (because there was a glimpse of hope for mankind) Galactus wasn't too pleased and imprisoned him on it. There was no mention of the Watcher (another big dude), which was probably just as well (without complicating things further)!

br /I had originally imagined this story line being dragged out into 2 films, with Dr. Doom stealing the Surfer's power in the second. So I was pleasantly surprised this was all crammed into 90 minutes, including the Fantasti Car. This of course makes way for a Surfer film (hopefully) and the FF can move on to other baddies (but please not the Mole Man or Paste Pot Pete).

br /Film Rating: Excellent.

Fantastic 'Five Stars'! August 14, 2007 Mattknight (Norfolk, England) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
This movie is one of my favourites for 2007 (tough competition due to the amount of blockbusters) because of it's lack of pointless romantic angst. It is full of action, packed around a great storyline with the team working more together and producing a more spectacular series of fights etc. The Silver Surfer is done extremely well with it's CGI and unlike just the one super bad guy theres three, so the fantastic four have to work together and the word 'together' being the operative word at the end.

br /The Silver Surfer is joined by Galactus (not sure how it is spelt) and Dr Doom returns with his own agendas. Overall this is a great plot joined by wonderfull action and a great cast. Well worth a viewing especially the new car the team gets.
Greatest movie I've seen so far in 2007 August 4, 2007 kingboy 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
This has got to be the greastest movie of 2007, for me that is. Non-stop action from beginning to end, funny moments and sequences that just want to make you sit on the edge of your seat. See this! It's MUCH better than the first!
