Customer Reviews: Modern classic August 29, 2007 Richard Hammond (St. Albans, UK) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful Hollywood has undergone a seismic shift in a short span of time - the independents, the free-spirits, the lunatics have taken over the asylum. Sure the money is still old-money but it's being bet on the kind of geeks who used to get bullied by other geeks at school. Donnie Darko is a spectacular example of an independent movie-maker getting to make what he wants. There were small compromises in the process sure but this is still a masterpiece - relax into it with the glorious sound way up high. Excellent movie November 30, 2008 R. Donnie Darko and the Smurfs Big Adventure January 31, 2009 Odelay In Space (U.K.) Emotional, profound and intense. Funny and quick-witted. Most of all it's incredibly watchable. An excellent script and excellent acting, interesting cinematography all add up to a great film. br /Every scene in the film is pure gold with many memorable quotes and ultimately everything seems to mean something, whether there really is a definite planned 'story' doesn't matter, simply because so much connects and it's more about what you feel than what you know. I could talk about this film all day but I suggest you watch it yourself and draw your own conclusion.
