Amazon.co.uk Review Twelve years after iDie Hard with a Vengeance/i, the third and previous film in the iDie Hard/i franchise, iDie Hard 4.0/i finds John McClane (Bruce Willis) a few years older, not any happier, and just as kick-ass as ever. Right after he has a fight with his college-age daughter (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a call comes in to pick up a hacker (Justin Long, iDodgeball/i) who might help the FBI learn something about a brief security blip in their systems. Now any iDie Hard/i fan knows that this is when the assassins with foreign accents and high-powered weaponry show up, telling McClane that once again he's stumbled into an assignment that's anything but routine. Once that wreckage has cleared, it is revealed that the hacker is only one of many hackers who are being targeted for extermination after they helped set up a "fire sale," a three-pronged cyberattack designed to bring down the entire country by crippling its transportation, finances, and utilities. That plan is now being put into action by a mysterious team (Timothy Olyphant, iDeadwood/i, and Maggie Q, iMission: Impossible 3/i) that seems to be operating under the government's noses. iDie Hard 4.0/i uses some of the cat-and-mouse elements of iDie Hard with a Vengeance/i along with some of the pick-'em-off-one-by-one elements of the now-classic original movie. And it's the most consistently enjoyable installment of the franchise since the original, with eye-popping stunts (directed by Len Wiseman of the iUnderworld/i franchise), good humour, and Willis's ability to toss off a quip while barely alive. Yippee-ki-ay! i--David Horiuchi/i

"have you done that kinda stuff before?" August 27, 2007 R. Fisher (west midlands uk) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
Twelve years after Die-hard with a vengeance Bruce Willis returns to the big screen as John McClane.
br /A breach of the computer firewall security at a government run installation throws the system into disarray determined to find the persons responsible they issue warrants for the arrest of all and any hackers with the technical know how to pull off the hack. However the hackers are just pawns for a group of cyber terrorists who orcastrated the whole operation and the terrorists are determined to get rid of any loose ends including hacker Matt (Justin long) oblivious to the terrorist plans, who McClane has been sent to pick up and take down to the station. Arriving at his apartment building the pair soon find themselves under siege and the action kicks off and doesn't stop as the pair race around the city in turmoil as the terrorists unleash another cyber attack crippling pretty much all electronic devices in the city.
br /It's one set piece after another. Whether it's driving a police car into a helicopter, a hand-to-hand fight in a car suspended in an elevator shaft, McClane going mano a mano with a henchmen or the finale of truck vs. fighter jet. The sequences are amazing and never fail to impress
br /It's the best action flick of the decade with some of the most exciting and tense fights and chases I've seen in a long time.
br /Willis is on top form with one liners flying as fast as the bullets and he reminds us why John McClane is still such a likeable character, Long's character manages to avoid becoming an annoying sidekick as he proves to be more of a help than a hindrance and the two have a good rapport. Olyphant of TV's Deadwood plays a good villain he's not very hands on but oozes menace as a cold hearted ruthless but intelligent adversary.
br /The 4th is the series has been toned down a little (so it could get a lower age rating in America) there's only one F-word in there which is of course the famous line and the violence is a bit more subdued with less blood splatter but still remains edgy and brutal.
br /All in all one of if not the best flick of 07 considering the disappointing threequels that graced us earlier this year. McClane steps up to show them how it's done and you're in for a wild ride with die hard 4 so sit back and watch the carnage unfold. Yippee Kai Yay indeed

The Best?? September 18, 2007 Robert P. Splaine (pattaya) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Before l saw this movie, l'd heard a lot of people saying, he is past it
br /and he cant do the same old thing again. So l went in rather sceptical.
br /From the opening scenes l was spell bound, and other peoples views left my mind. There is always a little humour in the Die Hard's, and there
br /was plenty in this one. The special effects...one word WOW. How
br /the hell did they do that, and next thing another special effect.
br / The plot centres on a computer scam, and the enemy as one may
br /say,has total control of New York, and else where. They can turn the
br /power, gas, phones off, as well as causing havoc with the traffic lights. All of the stunts were brilliant.
br /If you want an action packed movie, from start to finish this
br /has to be one of the best action movies for many years.
br /Never mind how old Bruce Willis is, his acting was as good as any
br /past performance. As of his age, well if l'd have been as fit
br /as he is now at 40, l'd be happy man.

br /Settle down, to one fantastic film.
Yippie Kay Yay! Bruce is back in town December 28, 2007 Jake M. Cochrane (Harrold, Bedfordshire) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
"Die Hard 4.0" was a suprisingly brilliant prequel. After watching "Die Hard 2" and "3", I was expecting a mere companion with "4.0". However, "4.0" is just as good as the original "Die Hard", if not better. It is what "movies" are all about: action, suspense, terrific stunts, and non-stop entertainment. But with a good story. "4.0" has a good story, and the action is never stopping (some of the stunts are ridiculous, however extremely cool) and Bruce Willis' acting is not half bad. Even if he isn't wearing his vest.
br /
br /"4.0" may be a disapointment for film snobs, but for the popcorn munchers it is nothing but sheer beauty from start to finish. If you enjoyed "Die Hard" or the sequels, I can see no reason why you wouldn't enjoy this. Also, the DVD content is fantastic. The commentaries are superb, and I think there are some trailers on here too.
br /
br /If there was one moment that, to me, made the movie, it would be the stunt in which Bruce jumps out the moving car (I think it was going at 100mph) and it flies off the banister of the car park and flies directly into a chopper which is flying around 20 feet in the air.
br /
br /This is back to business, old school stylie Die Hard. Bruce Willis is back where he belongs.
A superb addition to the Die Hard series. October 12, 2007 Mr. D. Bell (Northampton, England) 8 out of 12 found this review helpful
After an absence of 12 years, a lead actor who arguably has his best days behind him and a director who's first two films were dreadful, the question to ask about Die Hard 4.0 is how the hell did it all turn out so great?
br /
br /When I heard Die Hard was coming back, I was excited. When I heard Len Wiseman was directing, I was distraught. His first two films (the Underworld ones) were two of the worst films of the horror/vampire genre I have ever seen. Slow, boring and entirely predictable. All excitement evaporated as I was expecting him to do the same to the Die Hard franchise. After having now seen the film all I can say is that Mr Wiseman should stick to the action/thriller genre as he has made one of the most enjoyable and exciting action films in recent memory.
br /
br /Rather than kill of the franchise, Wiseman has totally re-invigorated it and there is every chance Die Hard 5 will not be far away. The set pieces are completely over the top but are filmed so well that you just get swept up in the whole thing. The balance between CGI and "real" action is perfect and maintains a more gritty and realistic look rather than some of the sugar coated action blockbusters. The story is also very good and holds the action together nicely.
br /
br /Overall Die Hard 4 is much better than expected. It is the perfect popcorn movie. The story is easy to follow, the action is spectacular and the performance of Bruce Willis as John McClane is spot on. In short, brilliant.

Extremely well-written non-stop action film: funny, self-deprecating - I love the slick references to Bruce Willis's baldness - and jammed-full of action. This, together with The Bourne Ultimatum, takes the action genre up a notch: the extras are ok apart from the absolutely brilliant 4min 32seconds of 'Guyz Night' singing the Die Hard song (with a specially recorded verse for no.4). Believe me, everyone loves the middle eight...
