Amazon.co.uk Review
How do you like your blockbuster movies? If the answer's loud, fast and full of big robots fighting, then you're well and truly in luck. For director Michael Bay's take on ITransformers/I, based on the toys of the same name, delivers just that. And with some style. P The film stars the fast-rising Shia LaBeouf (IDisturbia/I) as Sam, who discovers that his first car has a little more to it when it transforms into an Autobot robot called Bumblebee. Fortunately, the Autobots are the good guys, and following not far behind are a good number more, headed up by Optimus Prime. Against them are the less friendly Decepticons, with Megatron at the helm, and the two sides are set for a frenetic battle right in the middle of Planet Earth. P There's a plot sitting underneath all of this, but it's pretty much given with the ITransformers/I movie that it's just a vehicle to get the film from one set piece to another. And there's little denying that the action sequences are spectacular. Boasting quite staggering special effects, the on-screen action moves with a pace and ferocity that sometimes makes it hard just to keep up with it all, as mighty robots engage is some quite staggering fights. It's quite an achievement. P Paving the way for an already-in-production sequel, ITransformers/I has little pretensions about what it's going to do, and is all the better for it. This is a film about big robots, big fights, big effects and, ultimately, big, dumb grin-inducing fun. What, really, is there not to like? --IJon Foster/I

5 out of 5 stars One of the most entertaining summer blockbusters to date!   September 19, 2007

If you want an action packed movie then look no further, for this is surely one of the most fun films ive seen probably since Independence Day. It does exactly what it promises and delivers more action than the whole Spiderman trilogy put together. The film is about a war between robots on Earth so you'll have to suspend your disbelief for just two hours in order to enjoy. Plus, you'll be surprised how funny it is at the same time, with great supporting acts from John Turturo and Bernie Mac. br /In short, this is the quintessential big, loud, dumb summer action movie many of us have been waiting for and is thunderously entertaining. Also loved the last half hour, which is simply non-stop action as a number of city blocks get destroyed while the war wages on between the bots. br / br /The Double disk dvd is also sure to please the fans with bonus features that include: br / br /Disc 1: br /- Commentary by Michael Bay br / br /Disc 2: br / br /OUR WORLD br / -- The Story Sparks - Steven Spielberg discusses his love for the br / franchise and early concept art for the film. Explores how the br / writers adapted the cartoon into a live-action movie and why br / Michael Bay is the perfect director for the film. br / -- Human Allies - A look at how the actors were selected and their br / experiences on the set. br / -- I Fight Giant Robots - An exploration of the military training br / that Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson underwent for their roles br / and the various stunts that the actors were asked to perform. br / -- Battleground - A piece on the senior officials from the br / Department of Defense and Air Force who consulted on the film br / to give it authenticity and the key locations that the U.S. br / government provided access to. br / br /THEIR WORLD br / -- Rise of the Robots - Explores the interaction between Hasbro br / designers and Michael Bay to bring the toy line roaring to life. br / -- AUTOBOTS Roll Out - Michael Bay discusses working with Chevy and br / its designers and the modifications that were made to the cars br / seen in the film. br / -- DECEPTICONS Strike - The film's military advisors discuss the br / "toys" they allowed the production to borrow: F-22 Raptors, br / Ospreys and A-10 Warthogs. br / -- Inside the AllSpark - ILM's digital artists discuss the br / challenges of bringing the TRANSFORMERS to life. br / br /MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE br / -- From Script to Sand: The SKORPONOK Desert Attack - An in-depth br / look at the making of this particularly epic and challenging br / scene from initial storyboarding through production and visual br / effects. br / -- Concepts - Early sketch concepts of the robots. br / -- Trailers br / br /VERDICT: Highly recommended film and a worthy looking DVD purchase for the fans - 5 STARS

5 out of 5 stars I'd never seen transformers before   December 11, 2007

So aside from the second line of the theme tune I knew next to nothing about this. As a result I could enjoy the film for what it is. An entertaining summer blockbuster. br / br /Lovelorn high school geek sam witwicky, who idolises classmate mikaela from afar, buys a car. which happens to a robot in disguise. he comes from a race of good robots who are looking for an object that creates life, and are fighting evil robots for it. The object is on earth. which is about to become a battleground. with sam caught in the middle. br / br /This is an entertaining film. Pure and simple. providing laughs, excitement, spectacular action, and a lot of spectacle. shia lebouef who plays sam is a superb lead, anchoring the film with his wonderful deadpan delivery. His co star megan fox is beautiful and the rest of the cast provide great support. the robots are well voiced, especially by peter cullen who does optimus prime, the leader of the good robots, who has a fantastic commanding voice. A really entertaining movie, and a great one if you're looking for some fun action. br / br /The dvd disc one contains the film, plus a commentary from the director, who is worth listening to and is very articulate, although he's not always talking about the things that are happening on the screen, and the usual set up options and direct scene access. go right to the end of the film's end credits and you will find an extra menu with a trailer for the forthcoming film iron man, based on the marvel comic, and the original teaser trailer for the transformers film. br / br /on disc two, extras are divided into three sections. the first two, OUR WORLD and THEIR WAR each contain four documentaries, all ranging from fifteen to twenty minutes in length, which look at the conception of the project, the actors, the characters - human and robot - and how a lot of it was filmed. these are all good documentaries and well worth a look. br / br /in section three, MORE THAN MEETS THE EYE you will find a ten minute long feature about the making of one key scene, and the teaser trailer plus two other trailers for the film that were shown in cinemas. br / br /A great package and a great film

5 out of 5 stars Best characters ever #1   August 8, 2009

Bernie Mac's passing was a sad thing. Not because I knew him or anything, but because, chiefly, we'll never get to see Bobby Bolivia ever again in something new. A used car salesman, possessive of the single greatest laughter, voice and face in the history of fictional car salesmen. Eat your quiff, Swiss Toni. br / br /My brother and I watched Transformers last weekend or so and before his scene became worried that we'd get all sad. But Bobby Bolivia transcends sadness. The last thing Bernie Mac gave us is a scene that will never fail to cheer me up. If already cheery, it'll make me pss my pants. Which is a phrase I love. br / br /I honestly think I could watch an entire film about a day in the life of Bobby Bolivia, selling cars, laughing nervously, swearing under his breath at him Mammy, berating Manny's clown cousin for being an idiot, just being hilarious. But it won't happen, cause deadly Bernie died. And THAT is a sad thing. Essentially I'm a selfish being. br / br /I will say this. Bobby Bolivia may be the best character to ever have such little screen time. Better than Greedo (who was a jerk anyway cos he tried to kill Han Solo, even though Jabba WAS RIGHT OUTSIDE!), better than Hank Scorpio (just THAT much better), and better than Elijah Wood's character in Back To The Future 2, who told Marty McFly he was rubbish at playing that arcade game. br / br /As it happens, it was the last film released while 'ol Bernie was still alive, thus making it the perfect cap for his career. The last thing he did was the best thing he did. br / br /"Manny, get your clown cousin and get some hammers and come bang this stuff out baby, ah ah ah ah ah!".

This film is the sort of film I like to see, a film that makes you feel glad you watched it, that leaves you feeling happy! br / br /With Mr Bay at the helm you know the action is going to be fast and ferocious, but what i did not expect was the brilliance of the dialogue. Don't get me wrong, it won't win Oscars for the writing, but almost every line is played for a laugh. Cheesy lines abound and are unashamedly included. Brilliant.
