Amazon.co.uk Review
ISuperbad/I, for many, was the surprise hit of the year. Yet when you consider the comedy pedigree sitting behind the camera, perhaps it's not that much of a turn up. Director Greg Mottola, for instance, cut his teeth on episodes of IArrested Development/I and the underrated US show IUndeclared/I. Co-writer Evan Goldberg has credits on the US Ali G show, while his partner in scribe is Seth Rogen, star of 2007's other breakout comedy, IKnocked Up/I. And with that film's director, Judd Apatow, also on the production team, it's understandable to see where ISuperbad/I gets its quality from. P Yet in spite of all of these names behind the camera, ISuperbad/I is powered by Jonah Hill, previously seen in mainly supporting roles, as the foul-mothed Seth. In conjunction with Michael Cera's Evan, he bursts his way through a film that sees the pair of them trying to buy booze to go to a girl-filled party, before they go their separate ways to college. P Hill and Cera are strong in their lead roles, and keep ISuperbad/I motoring even through its quieter moments. But the scene stealer has to be Christopher Mintz-Plasse as Fogell, or--courtesy of his fake ID--McLovin. When he encounters two cops, played by Rogen and Bill Hader, comedy gold swiftly ensues. P ISuperbad/I isn't as consistently funny as IKnocked Up/I, and its running time may outstay its welcome a little, but it's still a tough film to knock. It's simple and straightforward aim, to sit on your screen and generate plenty of laughs, is comfortably achieved, and its rewatch value is high as well. Well worth a look. --ISimon Brew/I

This is a hilariously funny film. Superb script, identifiable, blatantly crude and crass... but brilliant. Just see it.

This movie is THE funniest film i have ever seen ! but you need to have the right sense to humour to appriciate its briliance, so if your a very serious person who gets offended easily don't watch this. anyway, yes this film is hilarious it had me and my friend on the floor crying with laugher, i rate 5 stars it was great fun to watch and put me in a great mood

5 out of 5 stars a masterpiece of the genre   December 4, 2008

The nostalgic end of high school movie genre is a small one, but full of both very popular and some equally high quality films (American Grafitti, Dazed Confused etc.) and this is one of the very best. br / br /Yes, it has some of the crudest jokes of any recent Hollywood comedy, but they are very funny indeed. It also doesn't end up as mawkish as 'Knocked Up', so you're saved from that film's poor finale. br / br /Like most of these films though, the crude and sarcastic humour is actually hiding the nostalgia of the film-makers (and the long past 18 real target audience- these films aren't really about or for the age group they show on screen) for that brief period before the horrors of adult life impinge on all that's joyful and important in life. br / br /I don't think I've seen a film in recent years that has got as close to the truth as this one for putting the relationships between teenage boys on screen. The ending is as emotionally loaded for me as the fade to white of 'Thelma Louise' is to a wholly different audience. br / br /The only thing better (and this is mostly because I'm British and from the part of the country that it's set in) is the TV show 'The Inbetweeners', which I recommend if you like this film. br / br /As a t-shirt I saw recently said 'I am McLovin!'.

5 out of 5 stars Watched with friends and loved it   May 12, 2009

Me and my friends went to blockbuster to rent a dvd, and we heard about superbad. we rented it and loved it. it had us laughing all the way through. however it is probably not a movie to watch with you parents. br /i loved it so much i bought it on dvd so i could enjoy it whenever i like. it is like an up to date and more realistic american pie. and you enjoy it because it is what life is like in the final years of high school.

4 out of 5 stars McLovin it   March 1, 2008

This is not Schindler's list so don't expect anything with a good story , this is just the story of 3 teenagers trying to buy alcohol in order to be popular with girls and maybe get laid. br / br /What follows is a something in between American Pie and South Park , the main character ,Seth , is inspired in Cartman ( fast foul mouth ) and he is both funny and annoying. br / br /The secondary characters are also very funny and Michael Cera provides a bit of romance in the movie. The 2 cops are the most surreal part of the movie to the point of nearly ruining it. br / br /This is an overall 4/5 movie entertaining and funny and full of rude jokes. br / br /The Extras are almost useless , the outtakes are not as amusing as the real movie.
