| Customer Reviews: "Va-Poo-Rize"... The invention with wasted potentinal July 12, 2008 Top Cat (Somewhere in England, apparently) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
'Envy' is a bit like a rare orchid. It has the potentinal to look fabulous, but without care and attention, it will eventual wither... Such is the case with this film - a slightly wasted opportunity to make the final product a lot more respected.
br /
br /Ben Stiller and Jack Black play two bums who work high up in a sand-paper factory. For Black, this isn't enough, and his focus has been directed away from work onto more constructive idea's... He's a natural dreamer, and wishes to persue an idea that could change the world. Don't we all?
br /
br /Needless to say, he does. Rather by chance he see's a dog 'littering' on some grass and realises a seemingly impossible future... We need a product that can make dog poo dissapear! And what's more, he grasses out a contract of just 2000 dollars that would test his product. A stubborn, yet sensible Stiller refuses to pay for half the share.
br /
br /Miraculously, his product is seemingly fool-proof when he tests a sample of spray cans mixed together one night in the street... 18 months later, he's richer than rich!
br /
br /And so the bulk of the film; that being the remaining 2 thirds, un-ravels Stiller's envy that he never bought a stake.
br /
br /The humour is best noted once Christopher Walker enters the scene as a wacky and seemingly crazy "J-Man" character, who wants Stiller to get revenge off his loaded pal. In typical fashion, he plays the part perfectly, and the moment in which he is shot by a bow-and-arrow accidentally is hilarious!
br /
br /But all these little moments of laughs aside, the plot and the way it is presented is shabby. So much more could have been done with this story... a better time plan to spread the scenes through the film, a better script perhaps, but more noticeably a better soundtrack (with only 1/2 film-made songs being used throughout). When you see two such respected actors in a film, you really expect a more professional looking film.
br /
br /Envy just doesn't cut it when you see some of the better films either protagonist was present in, but this isn't a bad laugh at all. Most likely a rent-before-buy job.

Why oh why was this film aloud to be made, it is a complete waste of time and money
