Editorial Reviews: Amazon.co.uk Review In his first starring role, Andy Samberg is amateur stuntman Rod Kimble. To raise money for his ailing stepfather, Frank (played with devilish glee by iDeadwood/i's Ian McShane), Rod plans to jump 15 school buses on a moped. With support from his crew, which includes Bill Hader and Isla Fisher (iWedding Crashers/i), Rod trains for the big event. All the while, Denise (Fisher) is seeing obnoxious attorney Jonathan (Will Arnett, iArrested Development/i). Lack of physical dexterity aside, Rod prevails through pure dogged determination. You've seen it before, and if you can't get enough of this sort of thing, you'll see it again. iHot Rod/i is the kind of slapdash comedy that neglects to provide its hero with an age, a job, or even a hometown. But don't count Samberg out. Given time, he may yet craft a persona that doesn't borrow so heavily from the man-boy antics associated with Ferrell and Adam Sandler. Still, iHot Rod/i would've worked better with the funnier, more sympathetic Jorma Taccone, who plays Rod's half-brother, in the lead--on the other hand, that's the same formula that made iNapoleon Dynamite/i a hit. --iKathleen C. The main plot is slightly bland, but there is plenty of laughs to keep you watching. br /Will be purchasing this soon! Laughing till my stomach cramped! January 27, 2008 F. J. For some reason, someone gave it 1 star saying it was the worst film. I have no idea where this persons sense of humour was that day...... This is no Anchorman or Superbad?? This film is on par with all the great comedys of recent years. I only know one person who did not like this film and they do not like Anchorman either. Out of the people I know, I am the only person who owns this and everyone is always asking to borrow it and they have it for a lengthy amount of time. I think that speaks volumes. br / br /I was very surprised at how brilliant this film was as I had never heard of it before seeing it on Amazon. I can't believe I missed it at the cinema. From the start, this hits you in the face with laugh out loud, belly busting jokes. The format is very simple, as are all comedys like this. Rod needs to raise money for his stepdads operation to save his life. He raises money by doing stunts in order to pay for the ultimate stunt and raise even more money - the only trouble is, he's a terrible stunt man. br / br /Even after watching this film millions of times, it still never fails to make me laugh my head off. There are not many films like that - Anchorman, Austin Powers, 40 Year Old Virgin to name a few that do. This truly is a great comedy and for the money, you will not be disappointed. Cool Beans February 1, 2009 E Lack (United Kingdom) I recently watched this DVD with my brother who had seen it before and he said 5 words before watching it, "Like Napoleon Dynamite but funnier." and these words are so true. If you have seen Napoleon Dynamite, and loved it, I highly recommend this film; you will laugh out loud at the sheer randomness of it. br / br /For all those who have seen it and those who will, this movie is "Cool Beans".
