Amazon.co.uk Review IThe Heartbreak Kid/I reunites Ben Stiller with his IThere's Something About Mary/I directorial team, The Farrelly Brothers. Between them, they've conjured a sporadically funny comedy, that may not repeat what they'd all achieved before, but is still worthy of a spin. P The premise follows Stiller as his character is effectively railroaded into marriage, only for him to discover on his honeymoon that his wife isn't all he thought she was. Big debts, ropey music taste and, ahem, `bedroom demands' soon open his eyes on their honeymoon. And when, on the same honeymoon, he meets Michelle Monaghan's Miranda, IThe Heartbreak Kid/I migrates into a chaotic comedy, with a risqué edge. P It's fair to say that IThe Heartbreak Kid/I lacks the level of gut-busting laughs, or the consistency, of IThere's Something About Mary/I, with perhaps one too many contrivances required to keep it motoring. What's more, the final act isn't particularly satisfying, loosely tying up strands with little conviction. P Yet in spite of that, IThe Heartbreak Kid/I does muster its fair share of laughs, and few can match Ben Stiller in this kind of role. With energetic performances and some memorable moments married up to the gags, chances are you'll happily forgive the film its weaker moments, and enjoy it for the sound Saturday night comedy it clearly is. --IJon Foster/I

Ignore the over-analytical reviews April 22, 2008 George (Luxembourg) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Ben Stiller normally gets on my nerves so I was surprised to find myself rolling around laughing at this film. This is a comedy. It is not up for an award at Cannes. The lengthy critiques seem to miss this point.
really liked!! January 17, 2008 Ms. F. I. Macdonald (uk) 3 out of 5 found this review helpful

A surprising film... April 21, 2008 Robert Head (Brighton, U.K.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Any people who expect to see a continuation of the Farrelly brothers' genius really need to wake up and smell the gold-roast. Every single review I've seen is based on Farrelly films released before this. Sure, some humour is crass and tries to overtly assert itself like a relentlessly crap comedian to seem funny. But, as a film, it's very different from the Farrellies' past canon of films; based on that, you should really decide for yourself - don't judge the standard by the pitiful two-star rating.
Another one for the Ben Stiller collection. July 6, 2009 A mother (United Kingdom) If you love Ben, you will love this film. Classic him. Another one for BS the collection. Would watch over and and over. Not for young children as lots of sex etc. Funny film.
Great Date Film!!! December 17, 2007 m.bison (Cheshire, UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
It's been around 10 years since the film that everyone loves - "There's Something About Mary." Everyone from that film, the Farrelly brothers and Ben Stiller, are a little older and greyer, and I went into this film wondering if they could pull it off again after all this time. The answer is a clear and resounding yes. Right from the off, you get an entertaining and funny film, that is just as rude and outrageous as TSAM was.

br /I've seen some lukewarm reviews for this film, but don't listen to them. The time flew by when I was watching this film and there were plenty of belly laughs during the way. It is one of the few films that I've seen recently were the cinema had been packed on opening weekend, so you hope the film will hold everyone's attention and keep everyone laughing ... otherwise you get some teenage idiots who start messing around and annoying everyone else. Credit where credit is due, the film held the entire cinema for all 111 minutes.

br /People may point to Ben Stiller playing the same type of character he played in TSAM and Along Came Polly, but he does it so well, you can't complain. Plus the introduction of the Malin Akerman as Lila (who is brilliant as both the heroine of the film and the hysterical, crazy girl) keeps the whole thing very fresh.

br /It's hard to say what are the funniest parts. Most people will focus on the x-rated scenes, but I could NOT stop laughing at the rat-stroking scene for days. It's just the rat's horrible face before it scurries off!
