Amazon.co.uk Review
Glenn Close continues the exodus of terrific movie actors and actresses who are finding the more fulfilling and meaty roles on the smaller screen. And with IDamages/I, she's struck gold in an engrossing legal thriller. P Close plays Patty Hewes, an experienced and high profile litigator. She's then joined by the eager, and considerably more wet-behind-the-ears Ellen Parsons (played by Rose Byrne), who fits into the role of her protégé. IDamages/I then sees the pair fighting a bitter and prolonged case against Ted Danson's high-profile and very rich businessman. P Where IDamages/I differs from many in the genre is that its first season effectively covers one single case (albeit with many, many strands), much as IMurder One/I did all those years ago. And this makes for an increasingly layered and intriguing drama, with a healthy number of twists to keep you on your toes. P The entire first season is presented in this IDamages/I set, and very gripping it is too. Superbly acted by its cast of high and lower profile actors, it brings with it a real compulsion to find out what happened next. It's where the DVD set comes in handy, as there's no longer a week between episodes to get to the next part of the story! P IDamages/I may not have been the highest profile export from the States of late, but it is one of the very best. And this set is an ideal opportunity to find out what all the fuss is about#133; --IJon Foster/I

5 out of 5 stars Watch this series   February 20, 2008

This is easily the best new TV series so far in 2008. A legal thriller, this show brings back memories of Murder One although it's darker and more twisted. We start with the current time, showing a terrified and broken young lawyer being interrogated for murder. We then go back in time to find out how she arrived at this position, centering on a high profile legal case she was working on. Each episode shows more of how the case evolved and what happened on that fateful day. As the series progresses you are not sure who you should be routing for, how the characters are connected, or what actually happened that night. Full of twists and even some scary moments, I can't rate this series highly enough. In addition it is brilliantly acted especially by Glenn Close (which is somewhat expected) but also by Ted Danson - if you've only seen him in Cheers or Curb Your Enthusiasm, you'll be genuinely surprised by his performance. A brilliant show. I just hope it ends well and that there is another series!

5 out of 5 stars Compulsive viewing   September 30, 2008

I watched all thirteen episodes of this drama within four days. The perfomances of the main actors, Glenn Close (as the hard as nails Lawyer), Rose Byrne (the new recruit to her firm) and Ted Danson (the wealthy chief exective they are chasing with a damages claim) are all excellent. The suspense level is maintained throughout, helped by using a flashback style in reverse to tell the story. The bulk of the viewing is done showing the months leading up to the catastrophic finale. This is interspersed with later events leaving you following both the build up and the 'last chapter' at the same time until they meet near the end. br /The story line follows a legal battle lead by Glenn Close's character Patty Hewes representing over 5000 former employees cheated out of their savings and pensions by former boss Arthur Frobisher (Ted Danson). With hundreds of millions of dollars at stake both sides will do anything it takes to gain or protect the fortune. The twists and turns continually make you unsure of who's the 'goodie' and whose the 'baddie', whose telling the truth, lying etc. br /Watching on DVD allows you the obvious advantage of watching this drama at your own pace, essential as you won't be wanting to wait a week between episodes.

5 out of 5 stars I loved it   November 24, 2008

This is a great series, from first frame to final credits. br / br /I admit that I was completely taken into the glossy, glamorous, ultimately shallow world of the US legal system as depicted here - and I thoroughly enjoyed every moment. br / br /While I fully accept the comment that the show sometimes felt like an ongoing marketing campaign, on a perverse level, I actually felt that element added to its enjoyment. Moreover, neither the show nor the actors involved, ever appeared to take any of it too seriously. br / br /As for the Rainbow comparisons, I actually thought Rose Byrne was pretty good as the clever but extremely naive, rather pompous young lawyer, who makes the mistake of believing in her abilities just a little too much. And Glen Close makes a hugely enjoyable 'villain'. br / br /To any potential viewer, don't over-analyse, just sit back and enjoy! br / br /I've given it 5 stars because it was so entertaining, and on watching the series a second time, I loved it even more. Good television is a rare commodity in this reality/celebrity TV obsessed age, and I salute any series steers away from this sorry state of affairs. br /

5 out of 5 stars One of the best shows for years   February 21, 2008

The previous review of this show is spot on. Its fantastic. Its a well acted, gripping, legal thriller. It really is one of those shows, where at the end of an episode, your dying to know what happens next. If you havent followed the show on the BBC, wait for the DVD, and you will have the pleasure of watching the episodes back to back. I just hope that this show is picked up for a second season, as really good shows seem to get the axe in the states, eg Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.

5 out of 5 stars Five Reasons To Love Damages   April 19, 2009
Dead Ted Danson (Truth Or Consequences, New Mexicock)

1. It has a twisty turny plot that really keeps you guessing, but unlike Lost, actually fills you in on everything you want to know. The season ends nicely, concisely and conclusively while laying the foundation for another. br / br /2. Rose Byrne is in it and she's absolutely magnificent. She combines all the best features of Jennifer Connelly, Robin Tunney and several actresses from the eighties, she's cute, she's ballsy, and she's awesome. br / br /3.It's only 13 episodes long so it won't wear you out and doesn't suffer from plot procrastination, even when it looks like its about to. br / br /4. Michelle Trachtenberg isn't in it, not once, not even for a moment. br / br /5. It's superbly written and has a unique visual style, much like The Sopranos does. It is NOT, however, "The Sopranos with a law degree", as the DVD art contests. How can a TV show have a law degree.
