5 out of 5 stars Full of suspense!   April 27, 2008

This film was excellent! br / br /The movie started off a little blandly... a family going about day to day business, ok... then bam, suddenly the plot kicks in and it's a wild ride from then on in. br / br /This film is a straight to dvd gem! It is full of suspense and has you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Yeah, so it's no cinema blockbuster, but it is a damn good movie all the same. br / br /Without giving it away, the plot is that a married couple set out for the day, to suddenly discover that their little daughter has been kidnapped... to say more would give it away, but lets just say, there is a great big twist at the end!! br / br /I had my suspicians throughout the movie about what was going on, but it was so well written and acted, that I was never exactly sure if I was right or not for the entire film. Kudos to the cast who were brilliant, especially to the relatively new Gerrard Butler, who is great in his role. br / br /I was so pleased to have chosen this as a film to review, because I genuinely enjoyed it. I found the ending to be more abrupt than I expected, but it did not spoil the film and it had me thinking yeah, I knew it all along! br / br /I highly recommend this film if you feel you seriously have nothing to watch, you won't be disappointed! A great movie!! br /

5 out of 5 stars Gripping film   April 23, 2008

Being a big Gerry Butler fan, I bought the DVD of this from America when it first came out (is called 'Shattered' over there.) br /I knew what the main premise of the film was, but nothing quite prepared me for the raw emotion of Gerard's performance, nor how totally gripping from start to finish the film would be. br /Without giving too much away, it's the sort of film you need to watch for a second time..... br /I loved it and would thoroughly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Five Stars   May 15, 2008

The classic thriller where things are never what they seem and the apparently perfect family may not be so perfect after all always makes for entertaining and enjoyable viewing, and Butterfly on a Wheel is no exception. br / br /Despite a slow beginning and a lack of depth to some of the characters, the film keeps you guessing and keeps your attention with twists and turns. The performance from the cast is great especially from Pierce Brosnan, this time as a baddie, is remarkable believable and well done. The music throughout is good and all for all Butterfly on a Wheel is a fantastic film br /

5 out of 5 stars In the Hitchcock Class   May 23, 2008

We really enjoyed this movie in our house. It is very reminiscent of Hitchcock in that, in its tightly written script, nothing is quite what it seems. br / br /To say too much about the plot would very likely spoil it by giving clues away. Suffice it to say, it convinces. For the most part, so does the acting. Pierce Brosnan is superb. He's totally convincing and his performance is a wonderful example of how little a really good screen actor needs to do to achieve a convincing and gripping performance. The female lead is excellent too. I had a slight reservation about the other leading actor. There is a scene in a lift when I became very conscious that he was "acting". Compared with Brosnan's less is more performance which totally convinces, this scene marred the second male lead's otherwise very good performance. br / br /The film is directed and designed with great style. The composition of shots is always spot on and the story telling reminiscent of Hitchcock at his best. There has obviously been total collaboration between writer, director, designers and actors and it shows to great effect. the individual contributions are noteworthy and the whole is greater than their very considerable parts. Thoroughly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Superb for all Gerard Butler fans   May 4, 2008

Yes I know I am biased being a huge Gerry fan, but I thought this film was great. The plot is fascinating and keeps wondering right to the last. Brilliant twist at the end.
