I may be biased I - I come from Fife where this was filmed - but this is one of the most beautiful films I have experienced. Its up there for me with Fried Green Tomatoes as a series of human portraits but in an East Scottish, as I would expect - more paired down - format. The mother and daughter theatrical performance of Phyllida Law and her (real) daughter Emma Thompson fill me with admiration. Brilliant of Rickman - thank you!
