5 out of 5 stars Winters Guest   November 21, 2009

I'm a bit surprised at the other (neagtive) reviews of this film. I may be biased I - I come from Fife where this was filmed - but this is one of the most beautiful films I have experienced. Its up there for me with Fried Green Tomatoes as a series of human portraits but in an East Scottish, as I would expect - more paired down - format. The mother and daughter theatrical performance of Phyllida Law and her (real) daughter Emma Thompson fill me with admiration. Brilliant of Rickman - thank you!

A film that is a bit strange and definitely quirky. A good British film.

Not one of Emma Thompson's finest hours (does she have any?) - but worth a look if you can't get out of the chair to switch it off.

I purchased this item expecting to see a underrated Emma Thompson movie. I have to say that I was disappointed, I expected much more from it. Always a pleasure to see her in a movie but I would not recommend it.
