Amazon.co.uk Review
IIron Man/I, outside of comic-book circles, was never one of the better-known superheroes waiting to enjoy a big screen adventure, but in the aftermath of Jon Favreaursquo;s superb movie, anticipation for 2010rsquo;s IIron Man 2/I is rightly sky-high. br/br/ Fortunately, therersquo;s the small matter of the excellent Blu-ray release of the first film to enjoy while the wait goes on, which offers reference-quality picture and audio to enjoy. And those combine to bring across one of the most downright-enjoyable superhero movies of recent times. Robert Downey Jr is an inspired casting choice as Tony Stark, whose genesis as Iron Man is covered by this first film. Generous with its humour and yet never afraid to throw a spectacular action sequence at the screen, therersquo;s nonetheless real grown-up thinking sitting underneath IIron Man/I, and the film benefits enormously from it. br/br/ Most Blu-ray recommendations inevitably promote the 1080p picture quality of a movie as one of its major selling points. Thatrsquo;s certainly fair here. But also, the audio work on the IIron Man/I disc is superb. This is a full surround sound track in every sense, with the soundstage ramping up the noise and the intensity as the action takes hold, but also proving its quality in the filmrsquo;s slower moments too. Backed up with extra features in high-definition too, itrsquo;s a rounded and very welcome Blu-ray release. --IJon Foster/I

I have the American version that I bought the other week becuase I couldn't wait to get it! br /The Blu Ray version is very a very good transfer and possibly one of the best out there. This is paramounts biggest release and its worth the wait. br /The extras are really good too and unlike some blu ray's the extras are mostly shot in HD too. br /It is also BD live meaning updates and interactive quizes etc are in there too. br /The best part is the box art, pull off the swleeve and theres the man under the mask, epic!

5 out of 5 stars 2-Disc Set Does 'Iron Man' Justice   January 6, 2009

There is a lot to `give away' in describing "Iron Man', but suffice it to say that the film makers have created the real Tony Stark. He is the rowdy billionaire responsible for building weapons of mass destruction and selling them to the enemy who then turns into a reluctant and then powerful `Iron Man'. The cinematography is stunning in Blu-ray and the scenes starting from Afghanistan to Los Angeles's skies are over-whelming. The action is intense, funny, witty and true to the character of the comic book character. Plus, it is all believable. Robert Downing, Jr. playing around with his Iron Man invention is nothing short of hilarious and thrilling. Gwyneth Paltrow is a bit underused as his assistant, but she supplies some killer one-liners. Jeff Bridges plays a role that truly threatens Iron Man, but that's all I'll say. The effects are fantastic, the storyline is fast and clever and it is no small wonder it broke box office records. On Blu-ray disc, it is just as good as being in a movie theater - the details, color and sound are that amazing! Tony Stark IS `Iron Man'. br / br /All Blu-ray discs are set up differently according to their theme, but for Iron Man, I'll describe the imagery. The initial PLAY/SCENES board is a colorful statue of Iron Man with colorful, comic book scientific looking diagrams. Audio is available in English 5.1 Dolby TrueHD, French 5.1 Dolby Digital and Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital. Subtitles are in English, English SDH. French, Spanish and Portuguese. There are some great extras like the `Hall of Armor' showing all four Iron Man designs, `the Invincible Iron man' and deleted scenes. These deletions are great, inclusion "I Am Iron Man', `Visuals Effects of Iron Man', `a fantastic `Robert Downey Jr. Screen Test'. "The Actors Process' (Downing and Bridges get down with some real improvisations), a semi-spoof trailer from `The Onion' on Iron man,' Theatrical Trailers, Galleries, Credits and Subtitles. Not to leave anything out, more extras include six mini features such as `friends and Foes' and "Demon in a Bottle". If you're really into Blu-ray, try connecting to the Internet for BD-Live capability. This is one of the Blu-ray features that put it so far and above regular DVD. br /

5 out of 5 stars You've got to have heart, Tony Stark does/did/does   October 11, 2008

Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) military/industrial weapons mogul just finished demonstrating his newest rocket in the Middle East, when he is purloined by ruthless locals with dirty faces and a penchant for power. Who could be behind the dastardly deed? Of course everyone knows it is the last person you would suspect as in any good mystery. br / br /Well as luck would have it, in Starks efforts to escape he invents the fundamental technology for, you guessed it, Ironman. In the process he inadvertently gives the world a new weapon. How can he correct his faux pax? br / br /In his quest for the answers he solicits the help of his very efficient and devoted assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow.) br / br /For those enthralled in the Ironman comics, nothing has changed; except maybe the storyline. O.K the era in which how superhero exists. Well maybe a tad more gratuities sex. O.K. I guess I could go on for a few more paragraphs but you get the picture that we can not rely on the comic book character to be anymore than an inspiration for this movie. br / br /For people that are more music orientated, among the popular background songs they included the original theme from the animated series. br / br /It has all the formula and characters for today's super hero movies. By not making it a period piece we get to incorporate all the latest technology and social attitudes. br / br /Only saw the Blu-Ray version. Had the standard extras and flexibility. I am pretty sure future versions will add more insight or at least more footage. br / br /Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (Widescreen Special Collector's Edition) br / br /Tron (20th Anniversary Collector's Edition) br / br /The Ultimate Matrix Collection [Blu-ray]

5 out of 5 stars Iron clad disc: a must for Bluray owners   December 3, 2008

The superhero movies are really varying in quality. Some truly are excellent (Xmen 1 and 2, Transformers), others have barely anything to tell us (Fantastic 4, Daredevil, etc.). br /In my view Iron man clearly falls in the first category. Firstly because Robert Downey Jr doesn't take the role too seriously and has the charisma. Of course the story is not perfect, but it hold together and we all wish there were more action scenes such as the fighter jet battle. br /But at the end of the day, the image quality is stunning (a bit too noisy as mentioned in a earlier review) but really demonstrates what bluray is about. I've seen it on a Pioneer 50" plasma and it is nothing short of amazing. The disc interactivity is also nice with HD extras. Clearly it is must have for any Bluray owner, along with Pixar's Cars, Enchanted or Casino Royale in terms of image and sound quality. Buy it, if you are keen for superior image/sound quality, there's no way you'll regret it!

5 out of 5 stars Iron Man rocks just like the Black Sabbath song does!   May 27, 2009

Tony Stark is played superbly by Robert Downey JR and he designs very hi-tec weapons for the U.S.A. army, but when his own weapons are used against him he has a major rethink what he wants his company manufacturing. This is why Tony Stark builds the ultimate weapon and becomes Iron Man to help undo all damage his company has done. Iron Man has very slick action scenes and is a very enjoyable superhero film with some nice humour. Jeff Bridges makes an excellent bad guy which made a nice surprise, as he normally plays such nice people in his films. I love the rock music used in Iron Man and you must listen out for the song Back In Black by AC/DC it rocks! The Blu-ray disc of Iron Man is a 2 disc edition so it has more special features then any of my other Blu-ray films. If you like your superhero films then Iron Man is a must buy and watch the film right until the end of the credits as there is a cool surprise! br / br /
