Basinger shines! November 4, 2008 helen-bot (London) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is a great thriller from the director of Shoot Em Up and the wonderful Guillermo Del Toro executive producing.
br /
br /The story is focused on the trials and tribulations as she has to contend with an abusive husband, middle class ennui and a gang of brutal thugs. It's tense and suspenseful with a palpable sense of menace and danger. When Kim Basinger's character has had enough she grabs a tool box and the rest is some real cat and mouse fun as the tables are turned on Hass and his gang of cruel youths!

br /Features some great gore set pieces and an ending that took my breath away! Highly recommended.
Thrilling and punchy stuff! April 13, 2009 Mr. Per A. Edwards 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Highly enjoyable, While She Was Out is the story of Della. A hard working wife to an abusive husband. One night she goes to the mall and trouble ensues whilst parking that ends with Lukas haas and his gang of thugs chasing her into a forest on a cold night. Realizing that the only way to get out alive is to defend herself, Basinger plays the thugs brutal game of cat and mouse. It is a rather short film but that makes it all the more enjoyable. This was what i wanted so desperately to happen in Eden Lake. Excellent gore set-pieces and Basinger and the thugs are on top form. The film has a gritty reality to it that takes you where you sit and doesn't let go until Della has made it to safety.
edge of your seat drama ! May 12, 2009 jack firestick (wiltshire,uk) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
"whlie she was out " started slow, showing an ordinary housewife with a very abusive violent husband.it's christmas eve she goes out to the local mall alone to do last minute shopping. an inconsiderate driver's
br /parked across 2 spaces she leaves a note ticking him off. later when she returns a gang of thugs are waiting to confront her. after a loud exchange of words a security guard intervenes is shot dead. from this moment on it's cat mouse with a car chase resulting in della's 4x4 crashing @ a construction site,as the thugs get closer she grabs her4x4 tool kit runs off into the site. after much hiding she is cornered but she hits out with a wrench runs into the nearby forest. the toolkit becomes
br /an instrument of death as della ambushes kills each thug one by one!
br /the gang are despatched in extremely violent fashion,i.e wheelnut spanner
br /into one's nose screwdriver into another's neck. throughout this movie
br /you can feel for della as she uses her kid's drawing to keep her going.
br /she has to kill or be killed even pleads with god @ one point.
br /when she is confronted by the last gang member (after taunting her throughout) played by a brilliant psychotic lukas haas, she uses all her
br /charms to pretend to seduce him then shoots him! then she goes back
br /to her wrecked car drives home covered in blood coat torn her violent hubby starts on her again! she pulls out a gun....watch the film see! i would thoroughly recommend this movie,it propells an ordinary
br /housewife into a world of terror ,kill or be killed. i beleive the film will also appeal to the girls as the heroine is a woman who proves she will fight to stay alive be mum to her kids! good stuff kim!
Neat low budget thriller November 1, 2008 I Am Tyler Durden (UK) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Kim Basinger brings a lot of credibility to this compact thriller but quite what an Oscar winning acress is doing in something like this is anybody's guess. After getting into an argument in a car park with a bunch of young thugs, abused wife Della is pursued into the woods on a wet wintry night and has to fight for her life. Despite being totally unbelievable and with horror film level gore it's actually quite gripping and 80 minutes flies by. Lucas Haas is also good as the slimy leader of the yobs. Not bad at all as a definite B-Movie. The only extra on the DVD is a trailer which I advise you not to watch first since it gives too much away.

Poor Kim April 22, 2009 Kona (Emerald City) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Della is an abused wife and she's about as beaten down as a person can be. One night, she is accosted in a mall parking lot by four young hoodlums who then follow her to the woods. As the brutal thugs close in on her, she finds herself fighting for her life.

br /Kim Basinger used to be a big star and a good actress, but not this time. This is a cheaply-made and amateurish movie that uses violence and gore in place of character and dialogue. There aren't any surprises and it actually gets tedious waiting for the baddies to catch Della, but armed with only her trusty tool box, she manages to overcome years of abuse and emerge a strong woman in short order. Lukas Haas plays the gang leader and he's good at playing ruthless types, but his dialogue gets sillier and sillier and his last scene is nothing if not bizarre and ridiculous.
br /
br /A quickie indie movie that features repulsive characters tormenting a fragile woman; it gets old fast.
