Product Description
pBased upon Mark Millar's explosive graphic novel series and helmed by stunning visualist director Timur Bekmambetov - creator of the most successful Russian film franchise in history, the Night Watch series - iWanted/i tells the tale of one apathetic nobody's transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice.br br 25-year-old Wes (James McAvoy) was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known. His boss chewed him out hourly, his girlfriend ignored him routinely and his life plodded on interminably. Everyone was certain this disengaged slacker would amount to nothing. There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in his slow, clock punching rut. br br Until he met a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie).br br After his estranged father is murdered, the deadly sexy Fox recruits Wes into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to avenge his dad's death by unlocking his dormant powers. As she teaches him how to develop lightning-quick reflexes and phenomenal agility, Wes discovers this team lives by an ancient, unbreakable code: carry out the death orders given by fate itself.br br With wickedly brilliant tutors - including the Fraternity's enigmatic leader, Sloan (Morgan Freeman) - Wes grows to enjoy all the strength he ever wanted. But, slowly, he begins to realize there is more to his dangerous associates than meets the eye. And as he wavers between newfound heroism and vengeance, Wes will come to learn what no one could ever teach him: he alone controls his destiny./p

Amazon.co.uk Review
As the impresario behind gravity-defying Russian blockbuster iNight Watch/i, it's inevitable that Hollywood would come calling for Timur Bekmambetov. With a studio budget and an international cast, including two Oscar winners, Timur cooks up a Hong Kong-styled actioner bursting with fast cars and big guns. Our unlikely hero is mild-mannered Chicago accountant Wesley Gibson (iAtonement's/i James McAvoy), whose father died when he was a tot. Wesley never learned to stand up for himself, and his girlfriend, boss, and best buddy all take advantage until the seductive Fox (Angelina Jolie) rescues him from a sharpshooter named Cross (iThe Pianist's/i Thomas Kretschmann). After which, she whisks him away to a mansion on the edge of town to meet the other members of the Fraternity, where leader Sloan (Morgan Freeman) informs Wesley that Cross, a rogue agent, executed his father. Sloan believes Wesley has the goods to take him out, so he undergoes the Fraternity's brutal training regimen (Marc Warren and Common dish up some of the abuse). When he's ready, Sloan sends him out to fulfill his duty, but matters become complicated when Wesley finds out someone isn't telling the truth, leading our former milquetoast to exact an elaborate revenge. For those who've been following McAvoy's career to date, iWanted/i will surely come as a surprise. In adapting Mark Millar's comic series, Timur offers buckets of blood and a smidgen of depth, but fans of iThe Matrix/i and iMr. and Mrs. Smith/i will want to give this one a look. --iKathleen C. Fennessy/i

5 out of 5 stars Just what I Wanted!   February 2, 2009

First thing I have to say is PLEASE ignore all the 1 and 2 star reviews. Just as in a few movies I have reviewed recently, I think these people just do not get it. The first thing to say that this is an adaptation of one of the most popular graphic novels ever. If you take this into account (and therefore don't take the movie too seriously) then you should be in for a rip-roaring 2 hours of over-the-top Matrix style action. The story itself differs from the original graphic novel, however it really works for me. It's the story of a guy stuck in a dead end relationship, terrible job and life whose life is changed in the blink of an eye. With a good plot, good soundtrack, loads of action, good performances and a good twist at the end I highly recommend this movie.

Rediculous, OTT, silly, but Fun, Fun, Fun, and the only film I've watched for a long time where people around me, WOW'ed and made audible noises of surprise at the incredilbe special effects and action. Worth a look, if you like films for the adrenalin and to forget a couple of hours of ordinary life. Excellent for what is is, an all-action, roller coaster ride of a movie!

5 out of 5 stars Not realistic? Really? You don't say! Well spotted!   May 27, 2009

Fight Club meets The Matrix meets Batman Begins meets X-men, blah, blah, blah... Okay, so, the influences are obvious, and it's not really as good as any of those films. However, Wanted is a lot of fun- a nice cheeky dash of entertainment not to be taken too seriously. Not faithful to the original comic book, this may seem a little Hollywood because, well, it is, and Hollywood churn out so much commercial garbage its hard to trust their intentions, but I believe Wanted was made in the right spirit. (If it had been the same in every way but Japanese, it would probably have been acclaimed for it's off-the-wall style, but hey...) James McAvoy does well, its nice to see Angelina Jolie not being completely naff and Morgan Freeman is, well, Morgan Freeman. There's a lot of complaints on here about the film not being realistic. Hmm, near the beginning a man leaps through a 25th story window and flies about 80 metres through the air while pulling an array of guns from his coat and taking out numerous assailants with curving bullets, before being caught-out himself by a sniper shot fired from roughly 12 miles away. There is absolutely no attempt here whatsoever to be realistic. (Should commercial action films really take themselves seriously? Terminator 3, anyone? Stephen Seagal films in general?) The standard plot manages to work in some of the great kind of sequences I would have gotten a real buzz from as a teenager, although I'm a bit too much of a grown-up now to buy into this sort of stuff in quite the same way. Wanted is still one of the most charming action films I've seen in years and in my opinion benefits from the apparent cardinal sin of not taking itself too seriously. Don't knock it, try it... Preferably with a drink in your hand.

Ever since seeing the trailer back in March I had been buzzing to see this film, and I have to say I wasn't disappionted. Being a huge James McAvoy fan, naturally I wanted the film to be good but I seriously feared that it would just be another pointless action film that was all about the action without paying any attention to giving it a purpose (we've all seen films like that.) br / br /Wanted for me, mends the reputaion of modern action films. Yes it's got over the top, jaw dropping stunts but this film is supposed to be in your face and it's not for the faint hearted. And what's better is the fact that they have given the characters some dept and there is a solid plot line. The characters are relatable and you find yourself genuinly attached to them. br /So many times I have watched action films and I find myself not caring whether the characters survive, as long as the stunt looks good. But this film had me on the edge of my seat, fearing for the characters safety. br / br /It's got action, comedy, great characters, a killer cast and a great script. If you don't like this film, you'll be hard pushed to find an action film that meets your needs. br / br /This cannot be released fast enough.

For a start the special effects are amazing. It has a fantastic twist in both the middle and end. It certainly gets your adrenaline pumping, what with the fast paced action throughout and spectacular music. James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie execute their roles magnificently, and i think in context the plot follows well. I didn't know what to expect when i saw the trailer initially, but it's well worth the time. br /Amazing film. br /5/5 br / br /
